Emirates vacation time?

Thanks I haven't been on the Etihad site in awhile, I'll do my research.

I'm not sure how excited they'll be to see MD-80 SIC time but it least it meets the weight requirements for these airlines. Still don't have much time on it though...

Thanks for the heads up!

They are generally not excited about MD-80 time. If you can get on the A320 that would guarantee you an interview at all 3 of the Gulf carriers.

I'm still a long ways from getting to the point that any of you are in but I'm curious how you get to where you are. I've thought about flying in the ME but am still young and naive to the whole airline thing and from what I've read, it's not all it's made out to be. But say I we're to one day try to fly in the ME, how would I get there? Would I have to start at the regional level and eventually work my way to obtain the hours or is there another route that you could go? Sorry to hijack the thread a bit but I'm just really curious how it all works.

Basically, you need an ATP, a type rating and jet time. So whatever gets you that. I've previously flown the E-145 at a certain regional as SIC and could go over there to fly a Legacy for a corporate operator, although the pay isn't as a good as a schedule airline. To fly for one of the "Big 3" you pretty much need flight time in an airplane that weighs 80,000 lbs or greater (think E-175, E-190, A320, 737 or larger). As TP said above, the A320 and A330 seem to be the most desired type ratings to see right now. But to answer your original question, if you want to fly for Emirates, Qatar, or Etihad, the regionals seem to be the way to go.
