Penair is coming to Portland

I wonder if you guys will have any idea what to do with that FMS.

True story, we had a really nice collins FMS in one of our airplanes and they took it out because people couldn't figure it out. It followed all the FMS logic of any FMS I've ever used. It was just a massive pile of facepalm.

You trying to take my jerb, Alec!
I hope not! We are going places where they dont want to send your big ass Q. :)
Sweet Nokia
I know! It will last until the end of time.

It wont be foreign to us. We use to have a SAAB with an FMS, so it wont be new.

I dont know why it would be that difficult. Its the same avionics as the CRJ, Pro Line IV with 4200 FMS. If thousands of 250 hour wonders can figure it out i dont think the line pilots at Penair will have a problem.

It was a joke with Alec. Mostly about how bush pilots in AK can't fly IFR let along program a box to save their life. Penair is not a bush operator.

Got ya, my bad.

One thing is certain, they will absolutely love the 2000! Its a fantastic airplane.

If the Saab lovefest is over: Will you guys be overnighting there?

I ask because I have overnighted there more than I care to remember. On the surface, it seems like a cool, woodsy, rural ocean town. But of course, being all of those things, it's also kind of methy. I believe the prison is the main economy up there now so most things look worn out and faded and the people aren't exactly beacons of happiness.

We stayed at a rather sad hotel near a beach but overlooking a trailer park. No, not a mobile home community. A ratty collection of single wides that were in decrepit condition. And from driving around there, I don't believe there was a much better option for hotels.

Food? There was meh Hawaiian place in the "downtown" area, but that's about it.

Also enjoy the 1 week or so out of the year when your plane accumulates frost on the overnight and the the airport's jalopy de-icer breaks in the first 2 minutes. You'll be waiting for the sun to deice the plane for you!

All that whining aside, CEC definitely needs air service being so isolated. And there is an impressive amount of natural beauty if you're mobile and can explore.

The story I heard from your guys down here is that they bought that King Air with dual FMS thinking it would get then in the game on the low R route IFR in Southeast. Then come to find out it doesn't come close to meeting the equipment requirements and it either "broke" or the database subscription for the one machine was deemed to high and out it went.

I always enjoyed CEC during the summer. Getting some food and a six pack and driving a whole 20min to go see the Giant Redwoods while lounging in the river and enjoying the peace and quiet was something I looked forward to.

I hadn't heard that one. It's funny. You don't have to buy something to figure out what the specs and capabilities of it are.
