Delta Disqualifiers

And yet, everywhere else folks seem to bemoan that Big D has too many military folks.

You'd really be surprised the amount of information you can gather from folk's LinkedIn profiles. Recruiters, and pilot development team folks, know that they are this generation's hot girl at the dance that you need to sneak up to before you can gain entry...

I'll keep the names to myself, but you shouldn't have much difficulty finding them.

That's funny...

As if getting Check Airmen time is something you can just purchase at the gas station on the way to work.

These recruiters understand that there has been nothing but stagnation at a lot of shops right? They understand that that means there wasn't a lot of check airmen or training or standards hiring going on at certain airlines, which makes it difficult to get said check airmen time.

They can't be that clueless.

There hasn't been much hiring for a while, so you are correct. And that is exactly why they can be so picky at this point. Just watch- in a year and a half, the hiring picture will be VERY different.

It aint that great.
Tortilla soup and the Santa Fe Salad. GLORIOUSNESS.

Missed you at dinner...

And, yes, I recognize the sentiment you are expressing and am alright with it. If, however, something happens earlier - even better.

Well, how else do you explain a whole class of new hire - 25 with 24 being military. I believe there are just as many civilian pilots as military who have clean records and highly qualified. I am curious to know the breakdown though.

It will be interesting to see how they handle issues if and when the balloon goes up. The reserve/guard guys dropping MLOA might cause some scheudling pain

And for @Cptnchia, as I am pretty sure it was you that said the application tells you to input the highest level of education completed. It may not have been this thread...but unless I am totally missing it on Airline Apps (and excuse me if I am), but I am also recognizing that you yourself have not applied to Delta since well - since what, about 7-10 years? Just a guess...but...for the record:

16 years actually, but if it's this clearly spelled out, then I should have been more snarky in my original response. Something along the lines of RTFE.

I'm just here to provide some clarity where some confusion may exist, especially when inaccurate information is disseminated and in which case some people may not know better. :)

Didn't seem to be an issue/problem during DS I and II, or Enduring Freedom. There's probably not enough assets in service for every AD and reserve to fly at one time.

It's a wonder that you have time for anything else in life then. Especially around this place!

You forget there was a furlough during Enduring Freedom, so.....

I am curious about their hiring numbers in the 90's compared to post 2010. My guess is that like many of the other companies, they have jumped on the "hire a vet" bandwagon and may in fact be hiring more than ever.

It's not gonna be a problem of too many pilots leaving.

There used to be an awesome PB&J place in the food court by A10.
PB&Js with a large glass of milk is awesome on a Saturday afternoon, usually leads to a nap which is why timing such a feast should be done with great care, lest the little lady might become unhappy when one isn't hungry later that evening.

I got a fix it email. The form on airline apps said to show ten years of work history, so I filled out the last ten years. Delta emailed me asking me to show full work history from high school through current, I fixed it, never heard another word. Guess I took too long finishing college.
and now...we wait.

(Morale was high when I got the fix it mail, though.)

No Delta career in this fight, but you sound like a whiner... you got to give to get. Pay to play. Someone is offering you some sagely wisdom and all you want to do is disagree. Now before you say you have kids. You don't have to attend EVERY career fair, but sometimes for yourself and your kids, you would have to sacrifice some time to better your career aspects and their quality of life for the future.

You can call it whining if you'd like. That doesn't bother me coming from someone who doesn't understand the joy of being woken up at 6am by two kids climbing in his bed asking daddy to make them French toast and turn on some cartoons. I just think it's ridiculous that it's nearly required to get hired. And if you read through this thread, it's not "go to one." It's "go to every one out there." Honestly, I don't understand why there is a bigger male presence at a WIA conference, other than "if I want this job, I have to fake it." Because the sentiment in the crew lounge isn't what is echoed here.

Actually I do, but in my case they were twinks, and they were not looking for French toast!

Getting serious for a moment... you seem to sound entitled and expect a job at a major just to knock on your door and say hello. You want the job, but *sound* like you aren't willing to put in a modicum of work or sacrifice to get it. Maybe you're happy at your regional, maybe that's as far as you'll advance in this career. But you'll get zero sympathy from me, I'm a thirty-eight year old FT student and I work FT. And usually pulling twenty-four to thirty-two hours overtime, a pay period. Why because I'm paying for school. Sacrificing my 'me time' for the hopeful reward that comes with hard work, and often only having one day off a week. Why because degree will not pay for itself, or knock on door and say oh hai!

No one is forcing you to not do the ground work to make yourself competitive as hiring ramps up, but at least don't whine and bitch about it.

I don't think that's a fair characterization. Some of us just believe that people should be chosen based on actual qualifications.
