Big U.S. Airlines Fault Persian Gulf Carriers

Dubai, Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi...they all equally suck...But, you want CHEAP perfume oil, Shwarma and gold at the market price it's ok...I've seen Emirates training center from the road...kinda cool looking, but I would NEVER want to live in a country where your ( in their eyes ), "the help". So, all you little kiddies that like to come here and whine about the vagaries of the airline industry ought to go see the world first...Then report back...

Agreed, though to be fair, in the big picture, they are the "help" when it comes to the US and the west.......even the treasured no-talent non-skilled Emiratis.....which I think we forget to tell them enough, given the PC eggshells we have to walk on when dealing with them.

You're forgetting the $5 billion in grants given to the U.S. airlines post 9-11 again.

Once again, what subsidies is Emirates getting "every day of the year"? Still waiting for some facts.

TP
Name one global US airline that got money from the U.S. government after 9/11. You can't. AA, Delta, NWA, and United didn't take the money. North American and US Air did. So did AWA. Regardless, the carriers that took the money had to pay it back. That's not a subsidy.

He's still claiming that the money that they got for shutting down the NAS was help from the government. He's delusional or intentionally misleading, not sure which.

Here's 4 of the top of my head:

Check your facts Tranny. Straight from American Airlines annual report:
"Somewhat offsetting the impact of the September 11th events, the company recorded $856 million in reimbursement from the U.S. government under the Air Transportation Safety and Stabilization Act..."

From UAL Corp Annual Report:
"United has received $652 million in compensation under the act..."

other figures from airlines now rolled into UAL and DAL:

Continental Airlines grant = $417 million
Northwest Airlines grant = $461 million

The total figure given to U.S. airlines was close to $5 billion.

You're statement is true only in regards to the further "loan guarantees". A totally different set of rules to which were attached under the Air Transportation Safety and Stabilization Act.

We must live in alternate universes, mine being the one closer to reality mind you. Because we've been through this before. The U.S. Government gave the U.S. carriers the stated amounts above. Money is money. Just because it blows your argument out of the water you don't want to accept it.

@typhoonpilot, you can keep repeating the same tired rhetoric all you want, but it's obvious to everyone else that that money was to compensate the airlines for shutting down the NAS, because that's exactly what the statute says that money was for. I can't help it if you're too lazy or illiterate to read the statute.

Okay then:

While you were PFTing at Gulfstream, I was being paid $130/hour to fly first officer on a B737 thanks to that government largesse.

You want to re-name the government grants to the U.S. airlines, or say they did not happen, but I was a direct beneficiary of it. It kept me, and many of my airline pilot colleagues, in our jobs for an extra year or more and at a higher rate of pay than we made pre 9-11. This again, while you were paying to sit in the right seat of a Beech 1900.

Don't talk to me like you have a clue or even come close to knowing anything about this subject. You are narrowly focused on an ALPA agenda and refuse to listen to actual history or facts.

Ahh, now the personal attacks start because the facts don't fit your agenda. Cute.

I do not see any statement that indicates a personal attack. Again, I am just stating facts. In this case, your personal history. Readers need to know this. Kind of hurts your credibility when it is brought to light though, doesn't it? Someone who actively "lowered the bar" for all pilots trying to sound all high and mighty because he then joined the union. Character doesn't change Todd and your attacks on me because I refuse to let you mislead people here are a good indicator of that.

Not really. Everyone here knows how I got my start in the business, knows that I regret it, and more importantly knows what I've done in the 14 years since to improve the profession. So I don't mind you bringing it up. It just makes you seem petty and desperate. So carry on.

You're the one misleading people, typhoon. Trying to claim that something was a subsidy when it was just reimbursement for lost revenue while the NAS was shut down is a pretty blatant lie, in fact. I'm just giving people the facts.

Lets knock off the namecalling and personal attacks gents. If you can't argue with facts only, and have to resort to namecalling, then step away from the keyboard until you can. If you can't manage that, then I will manage it for you.....namely for wasting my time in having to. If you want to be that way, then there is a website called APC; you're free to take it to there.

Carry on.

Facts were presented by TP. Some just have a hard time grasping it. When it doesn't fit their version of reality, they offer a step-around excuse. But perhaps best to let it go. No one is going to change anyone's mind in this thread.
