737 question

Better than making the passengers take any available jumpseats just to get even more people on.... 13hrs in a jump seat, I felt bad for them.

I got bumped off an SWA flight from Denver to TUL because they used Love as an alternate since it was the next stop on the line.
THey left with 30 empty seats.

People get way to worked up about travelling. Don't become the person we all cannot stand at the airport. Just relax and remember it isn't a damn magic carpet ride.

I'm always pleasant at the airport. In 99.99% of cases the people you're dealing with didn't cause your inconvenience. Now with that said delaying a flight an hour to fail to get some nonrevs on? I don't see the problem with having a discussion.

I was once denied a jumpseat on Souwthwest 737 for a LAS-AUS flight (coming home from network JC no less). Weather CAVOK in both places, told me they just couldn't make the weights work. Maybe they just didn't want an RJ slob up there with them for 2 and a half hours; I struggle to come up with another reason.

It's a known issue among pilots. Dispatchers are being trained and ops agents are being held to a ridiculous standard forcing the skittish among them to fuel the plane without talking to the captain first.
As a commuter, I hate it. Jumpseaters shouldn't even be counted in the weight column and there is zero reason in the 737 that you should leave passengers at the gate with empty seats. It drives me insane.

If you still have the info on that flight, please PM it to me. This should never happen.

Did you talk to either pilot on the flight? I always make a point of introducing myself to every pilot sitting at the gate and telling the captain they are sitting there. Sometimes, though, a no crap 20 minute turn I don't get a chance to walk up, or even use the lav for that matter.

Some ops agents are playing dirty pool with not letting folks on and not telling the captain about it. It needs to stop.

I think the idea was just as fast (or, you know, close) to defuel as to kick them off...have to redo the paperwork anyway. Except, woops, no fueler available, so they wound up having to kick them off anyway. And yeah, we pushed almost exactly an hour late. Then we deiced.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK VIOLATION OF MY RIGHTS I'LL NEVER FLY YOUR AIRLINE AGAIN RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!(#*@(#@

You sound like This.

People get worked up, and honestly I think they're totally allowed to. They're paying a company hundreds of dollars to get form point A to B and many times it turns into a nightmare. Just the other night, a simple 1.5hr flight turned into a 4hr disaster that ended with a divert/cancellation at 2am. The service at many of these airports is absolutely laughable, and I can't wrap my head around how any of the airlines are actually in business (at least AA and UA). You get a simple call for deice that takes almost 2 hours, (anyone in ORD will know what I'm talking about). A deice truck that isn't up to standards, so it breaks mid spray and needs to be replaced, a ground crew that fails to communicate with the flight deck, and then rampers who can't be bothered to come guide an airplane in, when they KNOW it's scheduled to be there, further delaying an already late flight. You've now pissed off paying customers who are just trying to get somewhere for absolutely no reason because someone doesn't want to do their job. I was pissed for them, and just left shaking my head at how pathetic the service is.

As a commuter, I'll just smile and sit quietly whenever I get a seat, but if I'm a paying passenger I would be very, very disgruntled about traveling.

Did you crash? Then it wasn't a "disaster."

Air travel is ungodly cheap in America. I'm looking to buy tickets to Fort Lauderdale. The purchase would only be two months ahead of time, and I can still get business class seats for $410 round-trip. I can't even pay for gas to drive the trip for that price. And that's first class. If you think you're going to get royalty class treatment while spending less than the trip would take in gas, then you're living in a fantasy land. Airlines operate on razor thin margins. Want to be treated like a big shot? Make enough money for a Netjets account.

It wasn't a disaster for me. Door was shut and I was making money, but it sure was for the pax. Nobody mentioned anything about royalty class, or NetJets type service. Ungodly cheap or not, people are paying for a service and they're getting jerked around.

It reminds me of an old Louis CK skit;

"That's like buying a ticket for the movies, you get your ticket and then they say 'Get out, go home!'"
But I paid for the mov... "
"No you paid for a ticket, you didn't pay for a movie!"

Sure, most flights go off without a hitch, but many times there's delays that cost passengers their connection because of something that was totally preventable. A 15min flight shouldn't result in almost 2hrs of delays on a clear day, causing pax to miss an international connection, just because a ramper couldn't figure out how to load a cargo bay. A passenger shouldn't miss a connection because we can't get rampers to park us, and then can't find a gate agent to drive the jetbridge. Boarded pax shouldn't get kicked off a flight after they've been cleared, because the ramper couldn't count and messed up a bag count by over 20.

I think it's sad that it's become a fantasy that people should get what they pay for.

If I had a dollar for every time I've seen Netjets clients waiting in the FBO for an aircraft that was late...

Nah it was 7 years ago, so I've long since forgotten the details. It was the pilots themselves that told me it wouldn't work, I made it all the way to the flight deck to ask for the ride and they told me the numbers just wouldn't work, as they would be overweight. I didn't press for the details as it really didn't matter at the time and probably would've seemed rude. I've always been curious if inadvertently I committed some jumpseating faux pas or if the 737 really has weight restriction issues on 150 minute CAVOK segments (I would've been on the actual F/D J/S due to full seats AFAIK). It wasn't a huge deal, I just took the next flight to PHX and got home an hour or two later than I otherwise would've.

Really? So their part of the plane crashed but yours didn't? Because there must have been a crash if it was a "disaster" and not just an inconvenience.

People are paying for transportation. They stopped paying for service about 37 years ago.

You got exactly what you paid for, and so did they. Pay dirt cheap prices, get a dirt cheap product. Want it to be like 1960 again? Then you'd better be ready to pay 1960 prices. That $410 ticket I'm probably going to buy? It would have cost me about $2,060 in 1960. Sound good to you?
