DO THEY MAKE A MODEL WITH A 500 MILE RANGE? Sitting at the gate in MDW headed to SDF and they're noodling around up front trying to figure out whether they're going to have to kick anyone off for alternate fuel. I mean I know it's not the longest runway in the world but it's a 45 minute flight ffs!

Runway length, itll get ya every time.

Does SWA not use Aerodata? Easiest software ever. Enter the runway and preliminary/guessed takeoff weight and it'll spit back at you preliminary numbers and tell you the bleed, flex/toga, and flap setting that makes it work.

Is the flight full? With an alternate I'd guess the landing weight might cause the issue more so than the takeoff weight due to not burning much gas to get down there...but I also don't drive 737s.

That's my guess, too.

Yeah they were trying to save some non revs it turns out. Which I mean OK nice to try to help out the team but then there's no fueler to defuel, so they wind up having to kick the nonrevs anyway but now we're an hour late the rental car desk will be closed and I'll be cabbing it.

Calm down, they didn't want to make another Chevron run.

This.

For short hops, you can run into a zero fuel weight problem, as well as a landing weight problem. We routinely fly 40 minute hops and run into the same problem in the -400.

They took an hour just to try to get non revs on?? I'm all for helping people out, but an hour, come on. Oh wait, this is the same airline that makes deadheading pilots sit in the jump if there's passengers trying to get on. Nevermind

There is an airplane?

I think the idea was just as fast (or, you know, close) to defuel as to kick them off...have to redo the paperwork anyway. Except, woops, no fueler available, so they wound up having to kick them off anyway. And yeah, we pushed almost exactly an hour late. Then we deiced.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK VIOLATION OF MY RIGHTS I'LL NEVER FLY YOUR AIRLINE AGAIN RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!(#*@(#@

Do what I do, think of it as job security. It is the only way to maintain sanity in a world of nonsense. It is basically why we have a job.

Everyone out in Cali is upset about the woo woo anti vaxers. And I'm just over here going "yeah you go anti vaxers. Keep it up and we'll have rich people avoiding public transportation like the plague" - because of a plague.

WOOT!

It was probably a landing weight problem.
I don't think anyone likes sitting up there deciding whether to kick off cargo, bags, pax, and nonrevs because they were too lazy to give you an offline alternate or use another runway for your calculations. In the end, when you are the guy who may or may not make it (in a delay situation, it is usually because they are trying to kick off paying passengers), you will be thankful the captain tried.
