Virgin America hiring pilots

We just had a newhire class here at VX of 4 pilots and it's already down to 3. Not sure where the pilot went, but if AA/DL/UA called him then it's just business and nothing personal. My humble opinion I'd leave TSA as a newhire for any LCC/Major/Legacy.

This guy went to some corporate gig instead of VX. He never even showed up for class.

Not sure how long the window is open for. But with 5 planes coming this year and 5 next year, the window should remain open. Even if it closes it will open back up again. Sometimes I've seen it close and then just a couple days later re-open.

And wow I was wrong about LAX. In the latest newhire class of 3 (1 left already), the middle guy got LAX already. The other two got SFO (default) and there are still spots available in NYC. So I correct myself to say that SFO and NYC are possible right away, and so is LAX. If not LAX right away, then a couple months.

I'm surprised to see this. I remember once LAX was up to size (90 crews) it was impossible to get in because no one wanted to get out. But now plenty of LAX FOs have a bid for SFO and the SFO FOs bid to LAXs. LAX is capped at 90 crews and NYC is capped at 50 crews. No limit at SFO.

It appears to be closed again. Sadly I missed it this time. :fury:

Unfortunately didn't receive the assessment from when I applied a week and a half ago. Did you guys get one almost immediately after applying or did it take a while?

Did you check your junk folder? Mine was rather immediate. I wish I had done some research on the application before I completed it actually...totally wasn't ready for that.

Nothing in the Junk folder. I got the reply email after I applied

Virgin America

I updated it again just now, (added a whole 10 hours!) and doubled checked that I actually applied, and it says I did. I meet all requirements, just no 121 time, which might be holding my application back. 3258TT 1200ME 2600 PIC, 2 PIC types, 135 Captain.

Hopefully someone who works there can shed some light on it for you.

Mine didn't show up right away, but I clicked on the "Jobs I've Applied For" link after logging in and there was a link for the assessment next to one of the applications.

Shoulda told me, I could have given you some practice test links.

I appreciate it. It was kind if a poorly researched afternoon. I totaled up my logbook yesterday only to see the window had closed. Then I saw your post that it was still open and decided "lemme sit down and do this real quick before I run some errands." Since I hadn't done any research I didn't know about the eval. Wasn't quite in the right frame of mind.

Here's the update...

The hiring window has opened!
As promised, we have opened up the online application window and will also be conducting weekly interviews beginning February 3rd for a couple of months. Your referrals and recommendations are always welcomed and encouraged as it's people like you who have helped make Virgin America the place it is today! Please take a moment when recommending someone to ensure they will be a fit for Virgin America and we will be a fit for them. Your name will forever be attached to those you recommend so please be confident in your recommendations.

I was going to go recommendation-crazy but after gathering what I've heard, the rumor is they want only 2-3 recs tops. I'm already helping one guy at 9E (a local to SFO) so my hands are tied at the moment. But if you do get an interview, I would definitely provide some prep.

I think it makes sense to be done that way. That's why the recommendations apparently mean something.

I know guys that are like "I have 16 LORs at Delta!"'sometimes all that means is that you're good at asking.
