KCM

Ok. Fine it's irrelevant. What about the stuff being worked on right now? Should Skywest be able to utilize the jumpseat internationally once ALPA finishes up that project? Should Southern Air benefit from the 117 rules once ALPA, IPA and IBT eventually wineed that fight?

If a VX pilot is going to get the industry average payrate (made up of rates negotiated by unionized carriers), is able to wander through a KCM checkpoint (because of the groundwork ALPA did) and then catch a jumpseat to Asia (again because of money ALPA spent) why would he ever bother wanting to join ALPA if he can get all the benefits for free?

To me the line is safety. If it's a safety program I don't mind my dues dollars going into a program where the others may benefit.

Other than that...meh. Let them join or figure it out on their own.

That said, I think we would all be better off if we were all under the umbrella of the same Union. But I have much less of a problem with airlines represented by other unions than I do the ones with none at all. In theory, a group with representation is interested in working to raise the bar. The others are just riding coattails.

(D) None of the above.

Yes! I love that thing!

Dance! Dance! WOoOOOOOOooooo!

Nothing at all. In fact, the more people I'm the pool that pays admin fees, the less those fees are for everybody. Of course there is some risk to the security of the program as it's possible that somebody might slip through, but if the DHS thinks it's safe to add in the GA population, then I'm cool with it.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding security, only operators that are taking part in an approved security program are eligible. http://info.natacs.aero/known-crewmember-faq

... GA has benefitted from safety and other advancements driven by the airlines for years, and I don't see that changing any time soon, nor see a reason it should.

I'm a Teamster-represented Atlas pilot. We use KCM, too. Folks in this thread should get over it.

I was aware of that. I wonder though how the oversight on these "approved" programs are compared to the 121 world. I really have no idea.
I really don't know either.

I do know that our current security screening is done by the TSA and our on line initial and recurrent training is directly through the TSA as well, so I think that most of the variability from operator to operator is taken out of the picture. How the quality compares to the airlines is best answered by someone in the government involved with both sides of the house.

It's true. Actually, I was an ALPA member on furloughed status when KCM came about, but that's neither here nor there.

Beyond that, like I just told you via iMessage, if ALPA really wants to be seen as the preferred union for non-union (or IBT) carriers, taking a hard-line stance and cutting KCM off (which they don't have the power to do, anyway) is not the way to drum up a new source of dues money. Kill 'em with kindness and help the next union drives succeed.

Errrrrrr'thing. But man, we've got waaaay more important junk going on over at my airline than what teh internets think about us using KCM. Not even on the radar. :)

No he's not. More than a couple people in this thread have said that it should only be for ALPA members. He's asking a legit question. However, I'm 99% sure I know the answer to that question
Yes he is. You even say in our post that you know the answer. He's asking a question that he could care less of the answer. He has a track record that is anti organized labor and this is his passive agressive way of attacking. If it was someone else asking the question I probably wouldn't have bit but such is life.

That's wonderful. I was at an ALPA carrier as well when KCM was being put together. In fact, my airline at the time was one of the ones in the testing program (thus it's pilots i.e. me, had access to KCM long before most other pilots did). That's great that you're not a free loader because YOUR carrier doesn't have KCM. A few IBT 1224 airlines/pilots do have access to KCM. Maybe your day is coming next year? Would you be a freeloader then? Are your current union brothers freeloaders?

People who take advantage of benefits that they did not pay for are freeloaders... regardless of union association. My company will never be part of KCM because we only operate in one airport that has it available. All of our other bases allow for direct access to work via SIDA badge/normal security lines. Fewer than 10% of our pilot group attempt to commute so there isn't any reason for us to ask for KCM or for the company to give us KCM.
