SWA Assistant Dispatcher Posting

I'm not saying it WILL be held against you - just something to consider. In my previous work life ( at a major airline, different department ) I'm telling you for a fact that people who applied for jobs in the past that they did not meet the requirements for, it brought up serious questions that made us look at the candidate VERY closely.

It wasn't always a major deal - but to say that "It can't hurt" isn't exactly true. Following instructions is a big part of a lot of jobs, and how closely one follows the instructions on job postings are fairly indicative of how well they will follow instructions IRL.

I would personally NEVER apply for a job if I couldn't answer "Yes" to all the stated requirements. Because, I *know* the automated system is going to reject the application and I don't want to be viewed as being unable to interpret the stated requirements. JMHO.

But we've all heard the stories about people getting hired on at majors with no experience...so my only point being that it is worth applying.

Since I don't meet the requirements I was wondering if anyone knows approximately how often WN has Assistant Dispatcher openings? I will start a plan to meet these requirements but obviously this will take over a year and knowing roughly how often they post these will make my planning easier. Thanks in advance.

Ken, I was specifically referring to the phrase: "or related work experience with a Part 135 or Part 121-air carrier".
You said that you had experience, just not dispatch.
I was also trying to give encouragement that this is not just ANY major airline, but Southwest. Which doesn't have an HR department, but a "People Department"...

Yeah, but those people met the requirements of the job posting. They were able to answer "yes" to all the questions on the job application. I think you might be confusing what I'm actually saying with "you need XYZ amount of experience to get hired"... that's not the case. Just saying you need to meet the requirements of the job if you want your resume to actually get in front of someone.

Not going to hurt my feelings if you disagree, just throwing that info out there based on my actual real world job experience. Take my two cents for what they are worth :bounce:

Seems THIS particular posting, that most people who have 1 year working for an airline in many different capacities would be eligible based on the wording. But I wasn't ever specifically talking about this job posting. Never mind, I can tell my point is lost. Carry on. :bounce:

Difficult to predict future postings based on past results. Next posting might be in 5 months, or in 5 years. It all depends on demand.

Though it certainly is true that dispatchers have been hired without previous experience, this posting has specific requirements with regards to that. next posting might not, or it might have higher demands.

Is the company strict on internals having at least a year in their current position before applying to another department? I've got almost nine months in Ground Ops. Spent a few years at another airline before SWA.

Hmmm I can't speak for SWA, but you might consider speaking to your manager and seeing what he says.

I see the main problem with answering "YES" when you dont have 12 months of something aviation related, as,
1. Not following instructions (as one other person wrote)
2. you have to sign the form stating that all statements are true. So that is a big RED NO GO Flag.
I dont mind sending something in if I dont fit all of the criteria, HOWEVER if they ASK DIRECTLY, "yes or no" and I say "yes" and then sign and date "so help me God".....Then Game over. I have seen this play out right before my eyes with other applicants in other jobs. Even the smallest "white lie" or "exaggeration" can be severely detrimental.
Again, If an employer doesn't specifically ASK whether you have a specific qualifying trait, then no worries, by all means, send it in!. But if they ask, then.......Follow your conscience.

The specific answer to your question is best directed at your manager as it is a policy that varies from department to department from what I have been able to ascertain. Departments with high turn over may require longer stints in position before releasing you to apply for other positions.

Looks like this posting is moving forward fairly fast - already got the email asking "Are you ok with pay and relo" and to select a testing date.

I have been a flight attendant for 7 years. They asked if I have at least one year 121 experience. OH and B6 are 121 (well OH was 121). I used to go to church so I cannot tell a lie. I said Yes.

If I am fortunate to get that email
is studying the green book a good way. How many questions on the test and how should you dress

So does one have to go to Dallas for the test??....or is it an online sort of pre-screening thing?? Does anyone know for sure?

You have to go to Dallas for the test. If you pass the test, they will call back to schedule an interview at a later date.
