Whats the difference between a "drone" and an R/C airplane? Intent of operations? Weight? Honest question. I wonder if some of the scale models would be heavy enough to be a drone?
This thing scares me more than a quad-copter with a Go-Pro:
... think of how much ANFO that thing could carry.
Not gonna happen.400agl sounds nice, but not so nice to those of us who have more flight time below 400A than above it. What about IR/VR routes? MOAs? Hell, we can fly the entire state of Wyoming at 300agl.
I want transponders and a beacon.
Wait. How does it work where the NTSB can reverse a judge's ruling? It seems a little contrary to the idea of being able to "have your day in court."
I agree, Pipeline patrol, traffic watch, aerial imaging, etc.. It's all about to die. So sad..You can fly your toy around all day long at 400agl and below its the commercial ops that they are limiting. If they require a commercial to do anything to get paid in aviation and shut down the ride share stuff too then screw it make everyone have a csel to operate a drone for hire. They are going to take yer jobs in many areas with theses things to the point where getting that 1500 for the atp will just be about impossible. We have people get into shootouts over a dog in the yard. If Bezos thinks flying a drone across the neighbor's airspace won't piss off a lot of landowners he hasn't been to Texas yet.
You have an infinitely higher probability of hitting one of the billions of birds on this planet than you do of hitting an RC aircraft, especially when flying below 400'.400agl sounds nice, but not so nice to those of us who have more flight time below 400A than above it. The newer software already does on one of the more popular models. It limits altitude and also includes a GPS database of known areas like airports to keep folks out of trouble.I was out near KHAF the other day and some guy was taking pics of a hotel in the harbor, I "Politely" asked him if he had any idea how close he was to an airport or how high up he was flying. He had no idea. At one point he was way up and could have easily caused problems for someone on approach into 30. I think the cheap hobby drones should be electronically limited to something like 300 or 400 feet. Will people retool them to make them go higher...yep, but at least then we have some action that can be taken. Right now most people have no idea how high they are and its gonna be an issue here very soon.
Thinking that you should operate these machines without real flight experience is naive. The most contentious point is that the FAA will most likely require flight time in a traditional manned aircraft in order to be certificated to fly a UAS (drone).

I wholeheartedly disagree. How would flight experience help or enhance a person flying a quadcopter for a real estate shoot for a real estate ad?Thinking that you should operate these machines without real flight experience is naive.
It would be a rare "drone" that weighs more than say 5 lbs. Most weigh anywhere from 1 to 5.And you clearly have no idea just how many birds we DO hit, and how many millions it costs the taxpayers each year. I can't imagine the damage a 50+ lb "bird" would do.
