Ameriflight

How come almost all AMF'ers must go to a regional and not directly to a real major, if they are so good?

Don't go down this rabit hole. Nothing annoys me more as an ex-AMFer than hearing all the excuses AMF guys make as to why United didn't call today. I swear wear the only type of pilots with bigger egos are fighter jocks.

Metro training was taken seriously at AMF since the plane is such a mess. Completely different training atmosphere compared to the in house stuff.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of having the same PA31 instructors do my BE99 training. BE99 training wasn't any good till I got to my training captain. Didn't help half my training was in a 1900C FTD.

The unfortunate thing, is that as long as you got into the inner circle you were ok. Guys that had no interest in kissing a little company ass had harder "training" events, harder check rides, and more smack talked about them along the way.

FYI Metro training was done "in house" as well. All AMF instructors. The sim at FSI in Seattle was run by AMF instructors. It was the best training at AMF. Hopefully it doesn't get screwed up when it moves bases. I'm not holding my breath.

The metro training program has always managed to be put in the hands of good people who have been great program managers with each of them leaving their mark on the program. (One manager went so far as sending personal emails thanking those pilots who had come to recurrent prepared). What's interesting about this is that there's been 4 different metro program managers in the last six years.

My best guess on why it's ran so well is its distance from the mothership.

For sure. In defense to the Riddle rats, upper management provides a poor example of how to act professionally at times. When they see their superiors behaving a certain way, and are taught the egotistical nature of the training dept, it is very easy to emulate.

Yeah, well it helps you "add" flying but then contract some of your previous work back out.
We had a sick call on Monday and it required contracting another company to cover a run. Not too sure of the details, it probably was a last minute sick call but still that's how thin we're running.

I hope the top brass can see the irony of failing the majority of people they hire, and the fact that they have to contract out when somebody gets a sore throat.
