By the way La Jolla is my favorite. Not the spelling but the mispronunciation. Even the local NEWS stations screw it up. It's La HOY-a folks!

But depending on where you hail from in Latin America, you may actually pronounce the 'j' as a hard j (La JOY-uh) as opposed to the soft 'h'.

The double-L also sometimes gets pronounced as kind of a half-j and half-ch sound. It's a very subtle diphthong.

This was according to the guy who taught my conversational Spanish class two winters ago. USDA offers free continuing education classes. I asked my wife, who is fluent, and she says it's sometimes a slang/regional thing. My Dad, who is also fluent, says he hears it occasionally but hasn't ever determined a locale related to it.

Maybe they're wrong. I dunno.

My home GA field (a place called North Weald), there is a two seat Hunter displayed and instructed on by two ex RAF guys with thousands of hours on type. Their view, and what they teach anybody they convert onto type that any failure below 3000', point at a safe area and use the seat. Their view is that any landing on anything but a runway is likely to be fatal.

Not to get off topic... but, @Derg @MikeD and @Autothrust Blue I've had people email me who are from the general area and spell it Pt. Magu. So it has happened, although it's rare. And it was irritating.
