C172 aerial mapping (northern states)

H

Hardest part is none of the planes have IFR GPS installed. Being able to fly /u IFR is difficult in the winter. I only got about 5 hours of actual during the season, and most of that was shooting practice approaches.

Good to know that GPS approaches won't be possible.

Also great tip about "getting cold feet" (literally).
I think I'm going to double-sock it.

So I'm guessing this also means that using my flying gloves would help?

Look at the cockpit in the company's website. We're going old school this winter, sir! I'm pretty excited though. Looks like the second VOR has ILS capabilities.

Gloves, beanies, wool socks, the works man. You never know what your heater will be like.
Or you could have one that works but simultaneously tries to kill you so you can't use it. In Denver. In the winter. Not that I'd know anything about that.

hmmm... sounds like I might try stuffing some coveralls into my luggage
these planes have CO detectors in em, or should I order a few?

absolutely have CO2 detectors in the planes. Electric ones in fact. Safety is one of the things Nick definitely doesn't cut corners on.

Was reading posts on APF and I saw someone mention NSA. So, I cold called this past Tuesday and I took the questionnaires the same day. Got an offer on Friday. Just accepted it! See you guys on the 25th! Bimmer, we just may get along perfectly.. I've owned two e30's. Drive a b5 S4 Avant now though. xD

How many hours do all you guys have that got hired?

We should share contact info so we can plan this all out!

Awesome, congratulations! I'm still working on my e28 M5, she's hard to let go of. The eternal restoration...

Chairflyer congrats!

This is going to be a blast!

In response to your question, when got hired I had:

385 TOT
86 INSTRUM
6 ACTUAL
72 XC
90 CPLX
19 MULTI
Commercial Pilot, Multi- and Single-Engine Land
Instrument Rating
Private Pilot, Single-Engine Seaplane

Why if you had a commercial SEL would you only get a private SES? Did SES come first?

Just wondering because I had my commercial SEL and skipped the SES private and went direct to SES commercial. Same test just tighter tolerance. +/-5 rather than +/- 10

I did my private SEL first, but I didn't want to wait until after my commercial SEL (which I wanted to do after my instrument).
I know that's stupid- and a waste of money- but it was tons of fun!

I plan on doing my commercial ASES and AMES checkrides when I get around to it- most likely after the CFI.

UPDATE: One the guys left training the minute before signing paperwork, seems like he got a better offer. There is one position available for this season, we started training yesterday

I applied about two weeks ago and got the "Sorry, but you don't meet the requirements email." I'm only at 273 total.

It's 100% travel as in there is no home base and expect zero time at "home", wherever that may be for you.
