Auto Pilot Usage

This is the most important acronym in flying integrated airplanes.

Wait... I knew that so well, but then they strapped me down, held my eyes open, and made me watch this video that just kept repeating "confirm, execute!" My wife says I wake up screaming it in the middle of the night.

I have a philosophy about people who call computers stupid(computers only do what people tell them to). Maybe I should come up with a new philosophy about people who think computers are smarter than people.

Great...more wind checks

No wind checks needed on fifi! We have a system that protects the energy state to the runway via comparing inputted winds to sensed winds.

Is this the whole fleet, or just the girly French one?

It's airline wide in response to recent accident and incident trends. However, the french plane has the highest autopilot use (and highest deviations, too), so it's even more emphasized with us.

What sort of programming experience do you have, out of curiosity?

We've got an entire module in recurrent this cycle on handflying with the automation off, then each pilot has to shoot a raw data ILS... and we're supposed to encourage more handflying on the line.

OH THE HUGE MANATEE!

Wait, even my company did that.

6 months between sim events? 6 landings between sim events.

Great question!

Confirm - your inputs
Activate
Monitor - is it doing what I expect
Intervene - It's not doing it - change the MCP mode or unhook while you get recombobulated.

The last shop liked VVM.

Verbalize your inputs to the FMC.

Verify in the FMA.

Monitor the performance to make sure the AP does what you asked it to do.
