A local Oklahoma City TV station helicopter pilot has apparently been suspended for two weeks following a low pass with a BD-5J microjet (N60LC) in late July. Geez, he's getting a free air show that only lasts a few minutes at most, enjoy it. I would have been waving, smiling and giving them the thumbs up. Hell, I'd be wondering without markings that I could see from the brief footage, if they were special ops doing some kinda training and how cool that would be. We have like 20 bases around Southern CA and it's a surprise when you see two military helicopters for five minutes once in a while? You just know this same guy bitches about kids making noise while playing on the beach, a dog barking down the road, someone who parked too close to his drive way and his neighbor hanging their wet towels and swimsuits on their deck to dry.

I was waiting for this response. Easy on the stereotypes there. This is a military town and the vast majority of people here take pride in being a part of that. But there is always one, everywhere, who ruins it for the rest.
If he is in OB his senses (including hearing) are probably overly "heightened" by some particular substances... doesnt mean the rest of us are typical of that stereotype in any way shape or form.

Yeah....Just a few weeks ago I was asked by the manager of a certain FBO in SoCal to leave because my airplane "just looks like too much of a liability to have in the hangar" and that her line service guys were "off put because of the different color panel and patchwork on the cowlings"....basically got booted out of the airport because we weren't a shiny jet. Definitely left the impression that SoCal was a bit snobby.

Parts of it certainly can be, but don't lump the rest of us in with those yahoos. Particularly in San Diego, where you can hardly find a neighborhood that doesn't see some sort of airborne military traffic. Most of us appreciate and some of us certainly enjoy the noise because we know what it represents and what it means to us. Hell, there is a good chance that those of us that aren't making the noise are either related to or friends with someone who is making that noise. Sorry you had a bad experience, if you're ever in the SAN area for a while shoot any of us that live here a PM, we'll show you why we love it here as much as we do. Beaches, and tacos, mostly.

Crop dusters fly probably 20-30 ft over my house and less than that over my barn. It's a pretty badass semi-private airshow and we have front row seats. I look forward to it every year.

To be fair, the cameras on those helo's have some crazy zoom.
The pilot in question, Jim Gardner, is a great guy. Have met him personally at several airshows. Very down to earth and a very experienced pilot. Not sure what exactly led to the "race", but sounds like an airshow stunt that is perfectly legal, but scared some exec that knows nothing about aviation.

I got squawked at by the line staff at BFI for pulling up and parking right by the door in a 206 and it doesn't even have mismatched panels.
My rule is if you're not there to marshall me, I'm parking where I want.

Well what really got me was that we were paying 190 a night for hangar...Plus flying everyday and wasting an ungodly amount of overpriced avgas. Im no expert, but I thought money was money, even if it was just a drop in the bucket compared to a jet.
