F9

What's the ideal candidate? RJ FO? Non-4yr degree? Or are they looking for check airmen, TPIC, etc etc?

I keep hearing they have a very pilot friendly contract-- what makes it that way?

One that wants to work for Frontier for the rest of their career and/or convince them of that desire.
F9 is a honorable place to go and retire but I'm sure that demographic isn't huge and probably gets smaller and smaller each day as the majors suck up all the competitive and qualified pilots.

So, telling them that you're definitely hanging out for a while, to see how you like the job wouldn't be good enough? I mean, shouldn't one consider having more than one application out there? I guess some people may not feel the need to do that, but companies can't possibly expect EVERY applicant to be all about that one company to the point that they won't even consider applying elsewhere.

My guess is you probably wouldn't make it past the first round with that answer. @GypsyPilot what do you think?

I stated that my Delta & United apps were back up plans in case today didn't work out. They redirected and said their corporate culture is starkly different than those two airlines how could I possible consider all three? Then before I could answer they asked why i didn't have apps in with jetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country, Allegiant. Then waited for my response for each.

Ahhhh, so they have a particular approach and it's not as simple as yes or no.

Yes, @mikecweb outlined it very well IMO.

The funny thing is that after I detailed my experiences on the APC forum, I became involved in some offline discussions with their line pilots. One of them told me that several of the folks on the interview team left F9 for United back in the day, got furloughed, and then got rehired at F9!

All of the guys I spoke to offline were adamant that they really need to drop that entire line of questioning. As I said earlier, it was very strange and didn't fit the rest of their welcoming and friendly culture. Especially with it being at the end, it really threw me off in a way that was very disappointing (even before I got the TBNT).

But for real...what kind of time are they looking for? I know at least one guy on here started with them recently.

I can only speak for my day but I have 48xx and 2k pic turbine and I was the lowest time besides an f-15 pilot.
Good to know. I'm trying to start thinking about places a guy with only 135 time could get to that aren't regionals. And if you're having trouble finding a spot it seems like I'm boned.

It's not just flight time with F9. There were three highly qualified military guys in my group, including a former U2 pilot. One of them got cut at lunch, the other two got the TBNT a week later. Two former MD11 cargo guys, both got the TBNT. A charter only guy in our group DID get a class. It was also his 2nd interview attempt this year with F9.

If you're interested, definitely apply and expect a call. You may very well be what they're looking for.

Don't Lakers get hired there all the time? Sucks about the other apps though. Seems like an invasive and relatively unnecessary question. There WILL come a time in the near future where they won't have the luxury of being so picky.

There, fixed it for you Make no mistake gentlemen, the perfect storm has arrived and those airlines who say "We have 8,000 apps on file." will very soon realize that those same 8000 applicants also have apps in at all the mainline carriers and the well will dry quickly.

"Tell us: did you apply to United, Delta, or American?"

*Serious but concerned expression*
"Absolutely not! Not only is Frontier the only airline that I have ever applied to or wanted to apply to, but on the very day that I found out that I was bound for this interview, I sent a packet containing a my own manifesto raging against the legacy airlines, personal insults against the recipients, and fake checkride failures to the hiring managers of those airlines and visited the homes of each CEO to flirt with their wives."

Alaska. They take 135 guys. Are you trying to stay in Alaska? If you are and want 121 time I would recommend Ravn or Penair. With your times it wouldnt take long to upgrade at Penair.

I would've hired you with an answer like that... But I tend to think a sense of humor says something about a person.

Seems like an interrogation and not an interview.

How could anyone be committed to working at F9 exclusively when they change their business model and hub cities nearly on a monthly basis? What is it exactly that you would "like" about F9 so much that you wouldn't want to work somewhere else if the situation arose? They don't even know who they are. They should get over themselves and their dart board, and come to terms with the reality of the situation they are in or will soon be in. Keep pluggin away.
