Now I can enjoy the holiday weekend!

Today I passed my exam! I'm a dispatcher now, yay!! I went to AGS and I'm actually very glad I did. It was a big debate for me where to go and what would be the best fit for me since everyone seems to have a strong opinion and no one seems to agree. It was exactly what I needed from a school. You definitely have to be very motivated and just want to learn and go out of your way to learn. I had to pick up instrument books and books about turbine systems that weren't on the course reading list because I really did want to understand. The 6 days of classes were intense and I tried to come into the class being prepared to already pass my exam. The class helped and drilled knowledge into my head better. I can't imagine those with zero aviation experience, there were 3 out of 15 in my class like that. I may have had an advantage being the least experience pilot since I had recently done flight planning, unlike the ATP pilots who haven't done it for years. Having the ADX done before class was great, those who didn't have it done were stressed out beyond belief. I really liked my instructors Pete and Van (Van is new but was great!), the school was so welcoming and like a big family and everyone really wants you to succeed. I enjoyed my classmates too. Again, I'm glad of my choice and can't believe I'm finally done! Now just to get a job!

Excellent!! Congrats! It's a hard journey, and you should be extremely proud of yourself... Enjoy the holiday.
Next step.... Finding a job.. That seems to be harder than getting the license itself.

Congratulations! It seems you totally set yourself up for success by thoroughly preparing in advance. Well done. I'm trying to do the same, though I have to say, as a career-changer without any aviation experience, your comment about how you couldn't imagine how zero timers got through the class made me a little nervous. :)

But then again, I'm guessing the solo distance learning and super condensed class was perhaps way more intense than the six week onsite, which I'm headed into. But who knows, I hear all versions of the course are jam-packed, super-intense, firehose drinking situations. Either way, I have a feeling I'm in for a wild ride.

Anyway, good luck to you!

I wish you luck and only the best! There are lots of good people on here with experience. Surround yourself with successful dispatchers and learn from them. Don't forget to always always plan your aircraft safely and you will in turn keep your crew and pax safe. :)

Congrats! Welcome to the dispatch family! Remember to take advantage of this great resource on JC. Networking is a big part of getting to the majors. Many of us work at the majors and a few here have been in the hiring process. Use all available resources to find what you are looking for in this business!

Welcome to the party. The best part of this community is when your virtual friends become your buddies in real life. Work hard, have fun and when you get to the top, don't forger to send the elevator back down.

Thanks all!

Yes! I think that's so important. Even in class, I made sure to do a study group with people who were doing well in class and it just helped even more.

Thanks for the advice! I've been watching almost all the regionals hire and now seeing the majors hiring. Even with networking though, I'd need experience to even be considered at a major, right? I'd love to hold onto the pipe dream though :)

I went to AGS back in 2010, had a great time. Did Danny make an appearance at all?

He did! He covered ATC one day and stopped by a few times during the week. I was sad he didn't bring in his awesome plane on the last day.

Not necessarily, a lot of majors hire internally with no experience, me being one of those. Just getting into the Operations Center with a different position and networking from there is another option.

Glad he's still around, truly awesome person!
