Rude ATC

The controller's point isn't a valid one. Especially if he has enough time to lecture someone on a so called busy frequency or time slot. That ATC guy is out of line. He's probably the kind of guy that would throw you under the bus if he had the chance.

In addition, if they are so busy and there is only one controller this could potentially be considered a safety issue couldn't it

A controller has priorities and could have deferred the request. "Standby, I need to work some traffic." The safety issue is a controller telling pilots they should refrain from seeking assistance if they aren't high up on the priority list.

Yeah I suppose the potential hazard was in the freq. congestion due to this pissing contest... SMH.

True, but the controller didn't know the complete context of the pilot's situation.

If I make a mistake, rant away, I'll take my beating quietly.

Maybe the pilot is a 'local' guy who has had issues with the airspace in the past???? I am not a controller, but they probably know who the local 'problem' folks are.

Then follow the proper channels. If a pilot chastises a controller over the frequency, you had better believe he is going to get a number. We are expected to act in a professional manner. Ranting like a 5 year old because someone asked for a heading is not going to earn you a gold star next to your name. Reminds me of Todd at LGB. When a controller is known by name, maybe it's the controller who is the problem. There are a few guys who work SoCal tracon who are this way. If you're not 121, they treat you like a red headed step child. For the most part, they are all very accomidating. But there are a few...

Yeah, good point. It's all about context and we are often lacking critical details when we (I) post.

Then why would you assume or guess that "Maybe the pilot is a 'local' guy who has had issues with the airspace in the past?" and that he might be a "local problem folk?" The pilot sounded far more professional than the controller in this instance to me.

I am not assuming anything.

We simply don't know the COMPLETE context of this situation. I am glad the controller was trying to protect the integrity of the commercial operations.

I still don't see the problem.

It is a small clip. We shouldn't assume anything here.

I can assume based on the facts that the controller got snippy with the guy, FOR ASKING HIM TO DO HIS JOB. What happened before the fact should have been handled with a "advise when ready to copy phone number, which would have been on tapes as well likely. I'm just trying to figure out if you are being argumentative, trolling, or you think that the air space exists for airlines only as well.

Don't forget your roots.

Edit to add: Never mind. I just saw your reply.

Ah yes, that's what it always comes down to. The commercial operations. Oh, but only those that do things the way you think they should be done. Those 135 guys can all go to hell.

As well as the guy who put 30 years in at (insert major here), have retired and bought themselves the GA airplane they always dreamed of.

If the pilot was VFR what job does the controller have to do???

Maybe the controller was trying to prevent having to file a pilot deviation.

You're grasping at straws. If he was, issue the vector, "here's a number for you to call." Don't clog a frequency you say is "so busy."

Until they start paying their fair share, I have little sympathy for the 135 guys.

Anyway, the noise curfew into SNA is a big deal. I care that I get my passengers into SNA before I have to divert to LAX. I am glad the controller was professional enough to understand the importance of this.

Once again, what is the controllers responsibility if the aircraft is VFR?

Isn't is 'work load permitting'?

I would have mentioned that it's his job to service me.

Safe, Orderly, expeditious .

If by keeping pilots and passengers alive, you want to call it "servicing you" then yea ok.
