Rude ATC

This has been on Youtube for a little while, but since it seems a lot of people hadn't yet seen that video with the transponder guy, I figure a few of you haven't seen this one either. (I probably spend too much time Youtubing this kind of stuff.)

Thoughts?
99% of my ATC interactions are positive, but sometimes there are exceptions.
Anyone have any other "rude" ATC experiences that come to mind?
Controllers, chime in as well.

Just buzz the tower and make him spill coffee on himself. That'll calm him down.

See....Top Gun can solve all aviation related problems.

If that's rude... Well, I've had much ruder controllers when I wasn't doing anything differently from how I'd done it the previous 100 times.

Try flying in the Caribbean some. Even in the US territories.

Ok, maybe I'm just tired but where did he say he wasn't IR? He could've been capable and the airplane not. Or maybe he just thought he'd use atc as a tool and get some help.

I've heard worse, but it could've been handled better.

Me, personally I would've brushed it off as the controller was having a bad day. No big deal.

I get it, but after flying that long you would think someone would say, ahhh screw it, ive got to get my instrument rating this scud running is getting old. Or go buy a handheld GPS or something... But im sure there may be more to the story.

I want to know how the phone conversation went. Ha!

Was it just me, or did the controller sound a little intoxicated?

Meh, controller has a point...

The controller's point isn't a valid one. Especially if he has enough time to lecture someone on a so called busy frequency or time slot. That ATC guy is out of line. He's probably the kind of guy that would throw you under the bus if he had the chance.

If I had to defend the guy, I'd wonder if prolonged short staffing played a role is his attitude. I can't imagine though what could have caused his attitude to get that poor though. If I had to wager, I'd imagine the controllers over at SNA roll their collective eyes when he plugs in. Every facility and area has that guy and the other 99.9% of us can't stand listening to them work.

I've heard some incredibly ignorant things over the years from those same people on the landlines. I'll never forget being cussed at on the land line after I was confused by the center controller absolutely butchering his request phraseology. That was special.

True that. I think I heard worse from SoCal trying to convince them to do lawnmower patterns in their departure path for 6 hours at a time, so I'm probably less sensitized :P

The controller was trying to prevent that from happening again and was in a bad mood. No biggie if I hear something like that from a controller I try to be as brief and courteous as possible. IMO don't ever be snarky with a controller just STFU and pray he doesn't ask you to call him.

Well as much as a sour controller sours my mood too (unfortunately) the guy has a work load permitting clause in his back pocket for vfr traffic. He didn't use it so the spiel was uncalled for, but even pope gets low blood sugar once or twice a day.
