Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

I think it's a pod of whales farting. They're thinking, stupid humans, we're trying to sleep here and they're all up in our face using sonar? Well, damn, here's some gigantic farting noises for you to deal with.
An explanation as sensible as most presented in the past..

A back of the napkin calculation tells me that a single towed receiver might be able to cover 4800 square nm per day if they could operate 24 hours a day (10knots, 24hours, 20nm swath).

I also wonder if multiple towed sensors have been provided.

Ya might wanna get a new napkin. The towed array can only be towed at 3 kts.

Any faster and they could drive right over my teenage daughter's stereo and not hear a thing.

Also, there is only one array. Guess they didn't think they'd need more than that.

MH370 is probably in some small inlet along the Australian Coast hundreds of miles away from the nearest airport. That's the last place the Russian satellites would look.

Fair enough. I was just throwing numbers together to see what was remotely possible. Without researching, I used SURTASS as a reference point, as it can be towed up to 10 knots, if it's still in use. It actually had a minimum speed of 5knots just to keep it flying level.

I just read 3knots with a swath of 3.7km - that's pretty slow-going.

Why this may be it

The signals reported were near the 37.5 kHz "standard beacon frequency" of the recorders, officials say. That frequency was chosen for use to avoid interference from other ocean noises as much as possible.

In addition, the two pulse signals detected at the same time would be consistent with the two emitters on the plane.
