Crocs in Uniform??

Really? Southern jets has a strict uniform policy? I am shocked and amazed by this revelation. I assumed that everyone just got together and agreed to dress like a decorated steamboat captain. ;-)

Submarine Commander, broseph.

Look at me… Look at me. I am the Sub Commander now.

But here's a tidbit from corporate expectations:

  • must be black, plain toe, smooth leather, lace or slip-on type,

  • shoes must be kept polished and in good condition.

normally the anger sharks start swimming when I read some of the stuff he post, but even I had to woefully agree.

I'm not supportive of termination, with the exception of culpable reckless behavior and culpable willful insubordination. I don't believe this is pure willful insubordination.

I'm betting that this is more of a case of procedural drift and lack of enforcement. People push the limits, and eventually this sort of thing happens when no pushback occurs. It's very much like the "North Face" crowd walking around. No one says anything, and before you know it, it's a trend, then it's de facto acceptable.

Not defending the guy, and our collective reactions are what keep this sort of thing in check (especially in the absence of true enforcement), but termination isn't likely warranted. Termination should be reserved for culpable acts. We don't know enough about this to know if he is being willfully insubordinate, and is culpable for that behavior.

What cracks me up in the airline world is that something like Crocs [obviously] draws ridicule, but the large population of guys wearing the "boots" don't even register on the radar. If you want to get into the specifics of fashion and what constitutes "professional" attire, I still don't understand how wearing a boot with creased slacks makes any sense at all.

Texas.

I understand the point of uniform policies and for the most part I have no issues following them. I was one of the few that would wear a tie at AMF when the Company manual called for a tie.

Personally I believe there needs to be some common sense involved in the creation of some of these codes. When going to say Winnipeg in the middle of January they need to allow for some heftier coats. It really is a safety concern to require the wimpy sec offender coats in <-20F weather.

Personally I have another problem. My body requires cool temps. When I am walking around airports with the jacket on (required at my company during the winter) I sweat like a pig. Airports crank up the heat in the winter. As a result I am sweating (profusely before I started taking the jacket off) by the time I reach the gate. I seriously would have beads of sweat rolling off my forehead. That starts bringing other factors into play such as how well captains like you in an enclosed area.

I really hate ORD for this. It seems like the people in control of the temps there have never sat through a winter before. Same goes for every hotel van driver on the planet.

Crocs with a uniform are just stupid.

Mr. Simpson! Disparaging the boot is a bootable offense!

While I don't subscribe to wearing boots at work, they aren't even close to someone wearing crocs or tennis shoes...yes I've seen someone doing that too. Boots can be professional. You might not like them (as I don't) but doesn't mean they aren't professional. Now if they came rolling in with some field boots that are light brown and have hay hanging off them, ok that is unprofessional, but dress boots are fine.

As someone who gets criticized everyday I'm at work my uniform, I will definitely be wearing crocs for my next trip. :D
