That was exactly my thoughts. I shot it down on a lot of my non aviation friends facebooks who we're sharing it.
To many stupid things said in the article IMO. Why no distress call? Especially if the plane was making the turn before the last atc communication. Also if the fire was that catostrophic I doubt the plane survives for 4 hours.

Is that the case? If not, I can see the pilots turn, hit the AP, send a distress only to discover no radios, run the checklists, realize a fire, fighting it is not successful, succomb to smoke, plane flies on with the AP. This seems in line with the wired article.

I swear I do NOT understand the people that post up every time the news networks butcher an aviation story. Do you know what the definition of insanity is? Why do you expect a different result? WHY do you even know what they're reporting about this? WHY would you pay attention to something that you know in advance is an utter failure of journalism?
I haven't watched any of the news networks in long time. It seems like you all have the same opinion about it as me, but are continuing to watch anyway. I do not get it and it just wastes pages and pages of the thread with inane complaining and criticism. Yes, the stupid people on tv are stupid. So why are you still paying attention to them?

Ummm. Why? You are just making crap up now. And lets get real. A dry run would be sneaking knives/guns on an aircraft. Maybe detonating a small bomb while on board. But this? I don't understand how these fools make this crap up.

And I hate to sound cold, but CNN has a segment coming up on how the girlfriend of the American passenger can hold onto hope and how she knows her boyfriend is still alive. Well. She is so inundated with grief she isn't thinking rationally. Shame on you CNN for exploiting this.
