The Concept of Jetcareers

I love this place. Its awesome to get advice from people that have more experience than I do, and hopefully I will be able to give some when I have more experience. Networking is key as well. Plus seeing pictures of airplanes and Cuomo.... cant beat that..

@Seggy -

Here's the kicker, bro, that is my world.

I have a life outside of JC as well, but I, like you, have benefited greatly by other people helping me and the site is me "putting a penny" back in the kitty.

No doubt I have benefited from this site and I thank you for putting up with us.

I preach to the choir, some listen and heed the advice, many want to argue me down in hopes that I'll relent and just help them justify their bad decisions, but I do know that there are good people out there listening, many silently, that appreciate someone taking the time out of their day to electronically sit down and talk to them.

I do not doubt this.

You've already got the tattoo and have benefitted greatly. You can't just turn your back on the community that helped get you to where you are today because you have "different" priorities.

I haven't turned my back. Why would you think that? What people have done is that they have assumed that I have 'turned my back', which is FAAAAAAAR from the case. I have been helping (behind the scenes because I am not one to boast about this stuff in public) quite a few people on here enhance their resumes to my employer, write letters of recommendations, and I am setting up some other things that will hopefully get folks on here to move on.

You have expanded responsibilities and priorities.

I know that. See above.

Otherwise, you've communicated to me and the rest of the community that the next person that seeks help and guidance is just going to turn their back on the community so what's the point of helping that person if they're not going to reciprocate?

Once again, that is not the case. It was taken WAAAAAY out of context and a lot was assumed. I am going to focus on not getting into 'mind-numbing-like-topic' pissing matches (see the Southwest tie discussion) because those are pointless. In the past would have already jumped in.

The 'lateral move' topic is another perfect example. You gave good advice, but they are going to do what they are going to do. I have been involved in topics like that before, I will give good advice, but at a point, it is pointless to say more as they are going to do what they are going to do.

Personally, I feel completely burned and humiliated by your perspective on the issue because I have close friends that take the angle of "Why do you even bother try to help people, Doug? You've made it, why do you care?" and they are laughing their ass off right now.

This is to you and others following, once again, I have not forgotten where I came from. I hope to do what I can do to get more people on here to be future coworkers.

Bitterness from someone like Aloft, sure. But you? Really?

I am not bitter. I have no reason to be. I am not going anywhere, just be a lot more selective and not get bogged down in 'mind-numbing-like-topic' pissing matches. I owe a lot to you and this site. Once again, it was taken out of context.

You didn't, he's referring to an older (former now?) member "Aloft".
Oh, sorry then. I was not around here yet when whoever that is was a member here. Confusing. I may be several things, but bitter isn't one of them.

I think it's important to remember we are all on the same side of the table even in the heat of the moment.

This is one heck of an awesome site.

Joe

I take a one day sabbatical from JC and comeback to this!

There is a lot going on in the industry particularly the regional industry. There are some JC members that are in the thick of it! There have been some heated debates with some degenerating into name calling and threads being closed. It's the most I've seen since I've been on here. I've been a member for over 10 years and have been to numerous NJC events where I've met many of you. Heck I've even been to JCWHQ which was my first JC meet and greet!
I've know Doug for a just as long as I've been a member and I've know Seggy for awhile. Both a top notch individuals and would do anything in their powers to help another JC member out. This site has two main goals, which are Networking and Paying it Forward. Many of us on here have gotten a job or two with the help of another member or members. Hopefully they have returned the favor and paid it forward to other members. Both of you (@Derg & @Seggy) have been there to pay it forward to others as well as myself. Doug gave me a recommendation not only to get into Embry-Riddle, but also for my current job at Delta. Seggy was willing to do the same when I was thinking about wanting to fly for Colgan back in 2007.
I'm not trying to kumbaya everyone, I'm just saying that we're a big family here at JC and we all throw down online every now and then, but at the end of the day when we're together in person; we're eating tacos, drinking some beers, while shooting the crap or hangar flying. Not a bad group of individuals to call friends IMHO!:)

Just my $.02. Carry on!

I've been a member since flight school in 2003, and I've both received a lot of great advice and helped out some people along the way. Of course we are going to have differences of opinion, but we are much like a family in that even when we disagree, we understand why we are here, and what this place is about.

I've tried about 10 times to take a "break" from here, mostly because my wife doesn't like my attention to be divided when I'm home. But so far I can only stay away for a day or two before I start wondering what's going on.

Anyway, I know that I've argued with some of you (I'm looking at you Seggy), but I have no doubt that if/when we meet in person we would get along and be able to appreciate our different points of view. It's easy to spout off after a couple of whiskeys and say things in a less than constructive or thought out way. In the end, we are all here for the same reason, and I'm happy to know all of you. Except @ZapBrannigan of course!

Thanks Doug, for putting so much of your personal time and effort here.

One of my mentors once told me to not get too wrapped up in a bunch of ASCII text.

Sage advice for all of us, and it's something I still struggle with. Personally, I think we're all entitled to a few days where we flip out every once in a while before coming back to center.

JC is what you make of it. My advice is to make it as a safe haven more than a battle ground. My personal rule is if I can't get my point across in a debate within 3 to 5 post, I just let the other poster have his or her opinion. The likelihood of me changing their mind after that point is not worth the fight.

It's ok to take some time away from JC to hang with that cute little bundle of yours and the olé lady. I've cut back some myself. I still do the best that I can to help as many users as possible through the resources I have afforded to me though.

Now go out there and get me a job at United......Now! :)

I make contributions here when I can, but I get far more than I can give. Thanks for letting me lurk, listen and learn.

Same here! I joined this site soon after I started taking flight lessons back at the start of this century. Now, my messages count clearly rats me out as a listener rather than a talker throughout all this time :) but this is one of the sites that has become a permanent part of my aviation-related knowledge-gathering routine. Yes, there are always heated debates going on in here but, as long as they end up being constructive and professional, they'll always be the way to go to improve things!

I only hope that one day I'll be able to line up vacation time, timeshare days, and the JC yearly get-together so that I'm able to put faces with avatars together lol . .. it is on my bucket list though!
