Great lakes airlines

You should be ashamed of yourself for even considering working at Great Lakes for those low wages. You are only perpetuating the hurt we (as pilots) have done to the profession over the past several years... Especially when it seems that we are finally on the cusp of some real gains for our profession with what has transpired just over the past week.

And those who have gone from GL to the right seat of a Boeing are few and far between and that certainly is not the norm. Don't kid yourself. There are options out tere for 250 hour pilots. We were all 250 hour pilots at some point so you are preaching to the choir. I managed to find "odd jobs" flying airplanes and got to 400 hours before I decided to go get my CFIs. It was hard, the jobs weren't fun, but I'm glad I did that. And trust me... If you want to build skill, there are jobs out there that will give you that opportunity.

Landcare Aviation
Desert Winds Air Service
Northern States Aviation
Air America
Keystone Aviation
RC & A of the Carolinas
Aperture Aviation
Air Associates of Kansas
Meisinger Aviation
Williams Aerial & Mapping
Dynamic Aviation
Kucera International

That's just a small list to start that I can think of off the top of my head. Yes most are usually 500TT mins but I know for a fact Landcare will hire around 280TT. Jump piloting is also a easy way to get some hours to help get you up to those mins since drop zones will hire guys with VERY low time. Don't give up too quickly and NETWORK. I owe every single flying job I've had to knowing someone who helped get me the job.
I really appreciate you posting all of those companies. I have tried a few of those before, but didnt quite meet their minimums.

If you are having a hard time funding the CFI, I recommend this website. http://www.aviationcareerspodcast.com/

there is a link on that website to an entire page of scholarships that anyone can apply for. There are sources out there that offer help and with a little networking you can open more doors. A way better option than being a door mat for a bottom tier regional that as of right now does not even show promise of a future and for good reasons.
Thank you for that site. I will definately check them out!

How much TT do you have? There are survey gigs out there that could help you get some time without doing the CFI thing. Heck, I have 700 TT and currently working as a CFI and I'm thinking of doing survey next year to help with my lack of cross country time.

I really appreciate the feedback guys. I am at 300tt, 124 of which is multi. I have looked into multiple diving, and survey gigs, but 99% of them require 500tt minimum so i am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment....Go further in debt and get a loan for the CFI or continue to beat down doors in hopes of being in the right place at the right time. I went to ATP (Airline Transport Professionals) for my multi, commercial and instrument and they are willing and able to help me get on with an airline, but i've just got to get to at least 800tt before i'll even have a chance

i appreciate your post. No, i am not ashamed of myself. I just want to at leasr get my name out there and get ar least one foot in the door so i can gain experience. Im from a relatively small town where theres not a lot of flying opportunities so i am willing to do anything at this point

Being from a small town without opportunities has nothing to do with it. But go ahead... Justify your decision however you want. Just don't be surprised if it isn't looked upon favorably in the future. Especially in light of what has happened recently.

Knock on hanger doors and cold call every company you can find around you. There are opportunities out there but you have to go find them. Until then, I would work on the ground for your CFI, try to fly as much as you can (try out the right seat even), and hang out at your local airport. You'll get to 500TT by next fall when all the Picto venders are hiring and you'll be set.

For the record,
Wou

Would you happen to know of any. I am only at 300tt, 124 multi
Sierra academy of aeronautics in Atwater/Merced California offers free cfi training with a 1 year or 1000 hrs dual given contract. Pay is about $17-20 per hour. There's a few threads on here that mention it. I was/am considering and I have almost exactly the same times as you with no cfi

Don't bet on that. I sent my resume in 3 weeks ago and never got a call. I heard they are pretty busy with that 250k. Fine they just received.

I begged borrowed and stole my first couple hundred hours as a commercial pilot at an airport without a lot of real opportunities unless you had a CFI... I would drive hours to other airports just to put my face in front of a CP or business owner or whoever it took to get what time and pay I could. You do what it takes to make it happen. Do anything besides work for poverty wages. If GLA can't afford to pay it's pilots livable wages then it shouldn't be in business. End of story. Maybe one day when you have a little more time in this industry you will start to think like a professional. Having a commercial certificate or even an ATP in your pocket doesn't teach you how to be that.

I got called 2 hours after applying. And it was 2 months ago and he has emailed three time since asking if I am interested. In fact, received an email Tuesday this week.

I might have to call them up again. Thanks for the info.

thats awesome. Thank you very much for sharing

And not to beat a dead horse or anything... But you will easily make at least 5K more as a CFI. I made 25K as a CFI my first year. Not stellar, but way better than GLA.
