ExpressJet Hiring Dispatchers

Here is the reality.....I've known enough people who have worked for years at a Regional.....and then gone on to work years at a Major.....the thing that surprises them is that while a Major is somewhat better than their Regional job......the same problems exists and other new problems present themselves.....in other words, it isn't Paradise and they seem slightly disappointed that it is not....
 
What have you been doing to prepare? I don't know what I should be focusing on!

Overall I have been focusing on weather and DRM. Also, I have been reviewing ExpressJet as a business so I have an idea of what management is focused on.

True dat. And while majors are not immune to the same problems/issues that a regional faces, I like things a lot better at my current (major) carrier more than at my previous (regional) one. Things like ATC coordinators, a department that works on building new routes, etc...the resources available are a night-and-day difference, at least in my experience.

YMMV......I just get irritable when my job and segment of the industry get constantly dissed.

I work at a Regional ( one of the best in my estimation ) and fully expect to finish my work life employed at this one. As a person who has worked for many companies and have expertise in a number of fields, I will say this.....There are many, many jobs inferior to being a Dispatcher at a Regional.

The Majors ARE better......but not by nearly as much as most folks believe. Not Paradise....and from what I see and have been told by folks who work there.....it does take awhile to realize this fact.

I just ask the absurdly driven and ambitious Dispatchers to stop insisting ( at least in my presence ) that the Majors are the end all and be all of life/aviation. They are not.....as some of you will learn.

Hey, I have some friends at SkyWest who LOVE it there - and have no desire to go to a major, even though they probably could. That seems to be one of the better regionals out there, but I also have friends from my previous (regional) airline - which I consider to be only average in terms of how it was run - who also love it there, due in part to where the job is located, and have no desire to move anywhere else. So indeed, YMMV. There is absolutely nothing wrong with staying if a regional if you are happy there. I'm just saying, for ME - I'm very glad I was able to move up to a major.

Sure......I appreciate your seasoned and adult response. It's the newbies with overblown expectations that are intolerable.

Awwwww......Yep, I DESPISE Florida....In fact, I LIKE global warming.....that cursed peninsula will be totally submerged !!!!

Dude and brownies.......Hmmmmm, very Big Lebowski type......Still can't make Dude-like brownies....FAA don't ya know !

And I do have SPECIFIC items that irritate me.....mainly Newbies with an attitude !
 
Well I know Expressjet isn't perfect... I have pilot friends that work there. Still, I would LOVE to start there! I agree that it's very tasteless to bad mouth a previous employer, especially when you are still in the same field.
 
I doubt they will be spreading out interviews for an extended period of time as they do travel to IAH....so if some have been offered interviews and others are still waiting to hear well, the writing is on the wall.

I hope that isn't the case. I spoke with someone from HR who said that the guy who is doing the testing and/or interviews is in IAH all of this week. She said she thought he may have more people to contact once he gets back. But she may have been just giving me lip service. I have no clue! I am new to aviation, I am not sure how all of this plays out. I don't know what they look for, what their preferences are as far as a candidate goes, etc. But I am a nice girl and I would love to work there! Anyway.....I thank everyone for your input and wish you all well. Everyone stay safe this week with the weather coming in! :)
 
When I applied at my current gig, it took them almost a full month to call me, 2 weeks for the phone interview, and another 3-4 weeks to get me down for a face to face. I have learned in this industry, somethings tend to be quick, and at other times, it can be slow as molasses. Patience is the key, and while waiting for a callback, keep applying at other shops. Good luck!

Indeed. At my current (major) gig they didn't get authorization to hire as many people as they wanted, so I interviewed in early December...and didn't get an offer until March, with a start date in April. Other jobs/times it's been a much quicker turnaround. Never hurts to stay in touch, and if you didn't get this gig, keep applying elsewhere. Persistence is key!

I have applied to so many jobs! But I really would prefer to stay in ATL since my family is here. Someone else that got one of the positions with ExpressJet said that they are wanting to start this class mid-March so I would think that they will finish their hiring sooner rather than later. I just feel kind of like a ship bobbing around on the ocean with no Captain here! I am just not sure what exactly they want. I wonder if I am too old or they don't like my resume or my lack of aviation experience is holding me up....all I can do is hope they aren't done interviewing and that they will call me. I have a license, I am local and I have a lot of other experience that would be helpful to me in this position. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
