Air Wisconsin

AWAC will be hiring soon. Had someone move on to the majors. Management is just waiting on final approval.

We just got the company email for the position which means it's open. Good luck to everyone. Hope to see your name on the release!

It will be interesting to see what ( if any ) future Air Wisconsin will have. With an aging fleet of 70 CRJ200 they are not positioned with the necessary airplanes. Plus their CPA with USAIR is up sometime in 2015. The American/USAIR merger really throws a wrench in things.

Best luck to all and hope Air Whisky survives.....but the signs point to shut down.

I think a lot depends on what ends up happening with Eagle. ZW could potentially be in a position for growth. But yes, the future is far from certain there. That being said, I'm sure it's good job experience - and it's much easier to get a job dispatching with experience than without, even if the carrier was not around long term. Of all the regionals I know of since I've been in the industry - the only one I've seen that went away completely (as in, all employees out on the street) was Comair.

Air Midwest, Freedom Airlines, Colgan, Lynx, Mesaba, Comair, Skyway......all dead in the past six years.....all Regionals.

Didn't the Freedom and Colgan guys get job offers from Republic? Air Midwest, I think they were able to go to Mesa. And weren't the Mesaba guys able to go to Pinnacle? You may be right about Skyway although I think they may have gotten offers from Republic also. I was mainly referring to Comair as being - done, out on the street, no job offer anywhere else. In fact, one of Comair's divisions (Delta Private Jets) is still around and some ex-Comair employees do work there. One of my old regionals was bought out by Eagle, but everyone who wanted to was able to go there and keep a job. I'm sure I'm probably missing some small regionals that did just shut their doors, but in my experience the job security in regional aviation seems to be a bit better than with supplemental carriers...but like everything else, YMMV.

The companies are dead.....not the Dispatchers ! And I am sure a lot of the OCC/SOC folks got new positions as you say.....at first year pay and seniority ! LOL Point is....every time a company dies there are LESS aggregate total jobs in the industry.

I might be bias because I work there but seems like well be okay. Reason being when we lost the United contract we gained the Airways one. But yes the fleet is old and only 200s so I have mixed opinions. When other company's are talking about buying other type of ac we haven't had any movement nor will management say anything. I think they will survive whatever is handed down to us.

The problem with AWAC is the aging fleet of 200's and the senior pilot group...they simply wont be able to be competitive in a RFP and I highly doubt that work group will vote in concessions for some larger RJs.... I think the writing is on the wall, the majors want to get rid of the 200's and what better way then to not renew the contract.

Just to add a little here......
Why would US Airways pay (entirely) for CAT 2 and RNAV training for the pilots (and airplanes) if they don't plan to keep zw around in some capacity?!?! Completion wont be done until some time next year. It would be a waste of money (for which we all know Mr. Parker doesn't do lol) if they were just going to dump us. Air Wisconsin's upper management is very secretive about everything. There has been speculation that they already have 700 and 900 manuals and procedures made up as well.

I had an experience very similar to what you are proposing... When I was employed at Northwest, they invested a lot of money into a training program for flight attendants to keep their birds flying in the event the FA's went on strike (later on the FAs were locked out of being able to strike). About a two years later N'west merged with Delta - merger is code speak for avoiding having to reorganize a business or going bankrupt. So moral of the story is I guess you never know what will happen until it happens. From what I learned on this site and from several members, dispatchers are rarely unemployed for long.

If I'm not mistaken seems like what you experienced at NW was to keep the company running. What I am talking about is an upgrade of sorts. Why upgrade and invest a lot of money into something that you don't plan to keep around. That's what I'm saying.

Did they ever get cockpit printers for the ACARS?

Yes.....Your first sentence is logical. But the airline biz abandons logic on a daily basis. That said, I hope Air Whisky survives.....but it is doubtful.
