Global Ops Center Hiring

Florida's manifest defects are papered over by the occasionally lovely scenery. I have a stake in that because of the very large portion of my life I spent there. Perhaps my insights will advise others to beware. Awareness leads to change.

Again, Florida is the Haiti of the U.S. Don't be deceived by white sand beaches......the state is vastly, vastly more than that.......and infinitely worse.

Everyone's priorities and considerations for living areas are different. Sometimes a warm place and a nice beach is what people want (or think they need), and it's easy not to care about a lot of the things that you've mentioned and noticed. My Dad's this way - he'll always repeat "well, the weather's nice and there's no personal income tax - there are far worse places you can live!"

I want to take about 5 minutes on a expletive-riddled rant pointing out how he lives in the rectal cavity of the country. How South Florida is the most vapid, commercialized, overdeveloped, void of any semblance of charm, God-forsaken concrete jungle imaginable, representative of everything I cringe at within our national mentality and compounding those cringe factors by a factor of about 10. How I couldn't even look myself in the mirror if I lived there, and would wake up every day wondering how I could live with myself, if I'm already dead inside from trying to accept life in such an environment, and may as well be in the fifth circle of hell anyway.

Obviously, he doesn't see it that way, and that's okay. He likes it cause it's warm and there's no personal income tax. He likes being able to ask how the weather is when I'm freezing my nads off, and paid his dues growing up in Chicago. I've come to accept that some people don't care about the same stuff I do in a place to live. In the same way, I have a hard time relating to why people go to an island to sit on the beach for a vacation. To me, the point is to see and do something out in the world while you have time away from work. To others, it's a chance to simply relax and do nothing.

Anyway, here's the great Stephen Fry with his thoughts on Miami, in particular. I got up from my couch and gave a slow, standing ovation after watching this the first time. It's weird - after a while I began to think "is it just me?"

Anyway, I wish Global Ops great success. They have good people working there who come from the airline I work at now, and I hope they do well!

I can honestly say I have no desire to live in south Florida, namely the MIA area. That's a different world from where I'm at now.

In the end, to each his own. I think it's beautiful on the gulf side. My beaches are gorgeous, but then again I love the beach. I am definitely not a "just sit there and do nothing" person either. There's plenty to enjoy, including scuba, snorkeling, fishing, boating, etc... I've been a beach gal for many years having spent a lot of time in Hawaii and my childhood in San Diego. So it's a natural fit for me. What works for some may not for others...

Kev...thanks for the well wishes. We definitely have a great crew here from where you're at now! It's a good mix including a handful from my former airline as well. Good times!

Thanks to all those who applied. We have filled the positions but will be hiring again before too long. I'll let ya'll know in a new post at that time and for all the curious and non-Florida haters, you can apply if you'd like. Lol...

Enjoy Florida! There are tons of much worse places to live/work! After you get done enjoying the beach at Siesta Key, head over to Jose's on Cortez road (http://josesrealcubanfood.com) and grab an excellent Cuban sandwich!!!! Or maybe some Sangria at the Columbia on St. Armand's Circle!!!!

Jose's is right down the road from me! YUM... And Columbia is great too! Just went to Tommy Bahama's at Lido a few weeks ago. There's definitely a lot of good places to enjoy :-)

And so how could one complain about this? View from my 172...

I have family in that part of Florida and I think it's a great area to live. The zoning could be better in some places but overall it's a beautiful area! :)

I just spent 3 days at the AA training center near Euless Tx which is just another word for nothing left to lose.
Having lived in TX, CA, WA, AZ, LA, and yes....FL...I can easily state with factual data and scores of 'studies" from FOX news to back me up...that Dallas IS the worst @#$%hole on this EARTH.
No trees, no beaches, no mountains, no twisty roads (for my Ferrari or Harley), no vineyards, no hiking, no blue water, no good food. Unless "fried' is good. All they got is cops, rocks and buzzards.
So lets back off of FLA and move on to the underbelly....

oh...and if I have offended anyone I do apologize.

There's good stuff everywhere - you just have to look for it. Dallas has some nice lakes - not Lake Michigan sized ones but decent - and some nice outdoor spaces, and a lot to do. Would I plan on retiring there? No...but I could certainly build an enjoyable life there if I had to. I can say the same thing about where I live now, for that matter. Working in this field, you don't usually have the option of living where you'd most desire to be.

Im guessing you don't want to work for AA or Southwest dispatch.

Wait..what....no, no what I said was Dallas is one of the most influential cities in the Western Hemisphere. Culture, Science, Nature...It's all there.

Actually, I was born in England to Texan parents (USAF). My grandfather actually sent my Pop a small matchbox full of red clay East Tx dirt and told him to be sure to rub
my feet in the Texas dirt first thing, bye God. And he did. So you see, I have a right to my opines.

Get your anatomy right—FL is America's wang. ;) I've lived in Miami my whole life, but I'm itching bad to get out ASAP. I will, however, miss the food and weather. While the rest of the country is burried in snow and ice, I'm walking around now in shorts and a t-shirt. My main problem is with the people here. Anyway, I'm thinking about attending Sheffield this summer, and I'm hoping to be out of Miami by year's end.

Now to end my post on a positive note, I'll say our flying is great (as womanpilot also showed in her post). Here are some shots from an afternoon buzz around Key Biscayne in a Chickenhawk and one from EAA's Tin Goose out of FXE. Yes, there are worse places to live.

Are you still taking resumes? Are there any supervisory/instructor positions open? Thanks

I apologize...I just saw this. We currently have all positions filled but will be hiring again later in the year. I'll start another thread at that time and let ya'll know.

Any estimates on when they will be in full operation? I've been interested in them as Sarasota is my home and my current company has been going through some tough times. I'm current on the MD11 and would like to know more.

Regards,

Joe
