Tipping

I've worked in line service. I appreciated even the $1 tips from pilots, but if they didn't tip, I didn't really care. We got our tips from your pax. We know who's got the big bucks.

I bring cash with me on a trip as I find it easier to bank my per diem that way.

But in your scenario, yes, I would ask. Then my ass finds an ATM and pays the guy back pronto.

However, a regional Captain asking a regional First Officer for money is poor planning on their part IMO.

See that from the 'in-laws'......at least sister...I told julie..."we each make our own choices..." I refuse to feel bad for my successes just because they balance their check book via bankruptcy....

And for what it's worth, cool FOs will go all "No problem, dude," and spot a brother should it become necessary.

That's a pretty good idea bringing perdiem in cash. Definitely a good way to keep track of spending. Asking an FO for a dollar once is probably ok... More than that though and you're a tool.

I got to the bank every couple of weeks and get 20 singles. The first few times I got nasty looks. After about a month of dirty looks I explained myself. The lady doesn't look at me all weird now. :)
 
I drove for a car service for a little bit for some extra cash. Rinky dink local operation, vehicle was mostly a Chrysler minivan with 230k on the clock, a Ford Expedition with 7 cylinders or an Chevy Express van with 190k.Only did airport pick-up and drop-off. If I got a tip, which was probably 70% of the time, I was grateful. If not, I was a bit bummed, but I lived and I didn't hold it against them. You never know what someones personal situation is.

My kids have the Fisher Price airport. The little pilot that came with it holds a checklist in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. I don't have Acro's devotion to coffee, I find the corporate stuff works for me( medium or dark roast,black) but I will seek out coffee shops on overnight.
 
I am unfamiliar with per diem and its application in this context. I did a little bit of research, and

Man, some of you guys are pretty hardcore on this. I do it if the driver helps with the bags and doesn't try to kill us on the way. No tip of either of the above isn't met. :)

If I don't have cash on me, I just try to get them next time, and grab my bags myself.

FYI, I used to work for tips (waiting tables), and a tip wasn't just expected by default. I had to actually provide good service to earn it.

That is true. I made $2.13/hr plus tips when I was a server in AZ. I also waited tables in CA though, and made $6.75/hr plus tips.

Of course, my lack of boobs kept my average tip percentage down in the 13-15% range, no matter how hard I worked. :)
