Let the AS vs DL war continue

Thats the only downside with Horizon operating in Alaska, the state had a ban on free booze, it is even against the law for a bar to have a happy hour.

So you're telling me that Tom Cruise's 1988 movie Cocktail, is banned in the state of UT.!?

:bounce:
That's pretty much what I took away. They also HAVE to pour out of these electronic metering things, which I think only allow 1.5oz per drink. No doubles.
Speaking of old movies and Utardia, have you seen SLC punk?

Nah, don't hate on Utah. When I was based there, you could still get your hands on a cocktail.

Now, Texas… With all of it's wet counties and dry counties, that's some theocracy-driven enforced shizzle. If I stayed at the commuter hotel north of the airport, I'm out of luck. South of the airport, friend friend, come on in for a cold beer.

Hah. Yeah right. The people love the state's neo-theocracy.
We did take like 75% of their land, and billions in minerals/oil away from them for their form of government.
A judge ruled their same sex marriage ban unconstitutional today to so...

I have a question, from an outsider looking in. Does Alaska have the money to get into a turf war with Delta. If Delta really want to, can they squash Alaska without a second thought?

You may get some different answers here based upon people's viewpoints and understanding. From my perspective, I think Alaska is a great company , but they should be scared to death. Regardless of all their niche markets, customer loyalty, EAS flying, etc, Delta is still an absolute giant in comparison. Delta is making some visual jabs at Alaska that may hurt a little, and Alaska is doing the same in return. However I think if this gets pushed much farther there may be blood. And Delta by far has the resources to push a lot harder. Another important thing to remember here is that a lot of the talk on here is about how Delta can't compete with inter-Alaska flying, yet Alaska Airlines has repeatedly shown they desire to focus on the lower 48 market, and at this point a large portion of their income is lower 48 and Hawaii. Like it or not, Delta could win. I'm not saying I want to see anything in particular come out of this either way, just trying to step back and look at it from a non biased view. And I keep coming back to the fact that delta has a lot more money to waste on flying airplanes full of penny-fare pax than Alaska does....

I would agree with this and I think it's in Alaska's best interest to de-escalate the turf war.

I have a theory, which with no skin in the game isn't based on what I want to happen. I guess if it happened there be a huge Delta SEA base but I'm pretty sure I have a better chance of hearing a gnat fart then getting on with Alaska or Delta.

What if Delta is trying to beat down Alaska to make them cheaper to buy out? You would think it would take more money that way in the long run but it is airline management.

I think someone mentioned that possibility earlier in the thread and it wouldn't surprise me.
