BNA Small Plane Crash

Wow. Bizarre.

Assuming this guy was communicating with Nashville TRACON and was handed off, shouldn't the tower controllers have noticed something was amiss when he didn't come up on tower frequency?

Thats what I was thinking. Someone might have some serious explaining to do. Arent these towers suppose to be duel staffed?

Shouldn't tracon have noticed if he got to the middle of class b without talking to anyone? Either way someone working last night's shift is likely a bit concerned.
 
I live about 45 mi north, and we had about 1/4 mi vis this morning. Some of the guys on the scanner were reporting icing up higher as well. Curious to find out what happened, but prayers for the family.

Good question. This is a very strange accident, it will be interesting to see what the investigation uncovers.
 
fog and low ceilings, how on earth did somebody not notice an IFR inbound never showing up or canceling through the tower. jeeze the ball got drop dropped and then ran over with a truck on this one.

I don't think the article stated, nor has anyone confirmed, it was an IFR inbound - because that's not what happened.

There's more to this than the media knows, or is able to interpret correctly to report.

And that's about all I've got for the interwebz on this matter...for now.

Maybe he was scud-running and busted the class C without ever talking to anybody.

Both controllers that were working during the Cerritos midair (LAX Tracon) and the LAX USAir/SkyWest runway crash (LAX Tower) were promoted to supervisor positions later in their careers.

I knew about the lax tower one, I was only half joking. I just wasn't sure if this would be egregious enough to justify promotions.

I thought the LAX twr controller was a female, who quit ATC after the incident... I think that's what I saw on a documentary (I don't believe everything I see on tv though)... Gave a landing clearance when someone else was holding in position? Am I thinking of the wrong one?
