How to waste an education and Navy flight school slot at Disney World...

Why should it be any different because he was an officer?

It shouldn't be.

Although, in that specific case, I'd have put him in the brig too. Not so much with the idea of punishment, but rather for his own safety.

Neat picture too.

The UNREP is pretty cool to watch. A few fuel lines from the supply ship, a couple of helos going back and forth with crates, and the only time the fruit was REALLY fresh. If you had to be on a working party, that was the day. And take the refrigerated/galley help. The food would have to be taken down several levels to the refirgeration and by the time a crate of apples or soemthing got to the fridge it always seemed to be missing quite a few from the top....

The emergency breakaway was very dangerous...Rolling seas, fuel transfers, helo's ...

LEt's flip the script for a minute and make this guy an enlisted Petty Officer 3rd class. He would be to Captain's Mast so fast and there would be no question he is done. Why should it be any different because he was an officer? I saw this happen plenty of times while on the Ranger.

I shlt you not....We were underway to Sydney Austrailia and we had an enlisted E3 who decided he missed his girlfriend and wanted out. What did he do....? During an UNREP operation he jumped from mid-deck between the carrier and the supply ship. Being an UNREP operation there were helo's flying supplies back and forth with rescue swimmers. They did an emergency breakaway (VERY DANGEROUS) nad plucked him form the ocean. He was at Mast within days and he 'helped' out of the Navy. He spent the rest of the cruise in the Brig and when we got back to North Island, he was gone.....Dumb-ass. (you can totally say ass on here....)

There was definitely a bias in the Navy, enlisted guys were much more quickly busted for misbehavior. I too didn't like the guilty before proven innocent but there are cases, once arrested for public intox, drunk and disorderly, your time was measured in minutes at the training command. Hitting a chick across the face for example, is an E ticket ride to the boss and out of flight school.

Quickly, and often unfairly, but at least there is a range of actions available to get a sailor's attention.

There's are categories of behavior that can be managed and categories that can't.

This case doesn't leave much room for deliberation.

I was there Saturday. Everybody who goes to the "Food and Wine Festival" goes there to get drunk (and eat good food). I was drunk. Thousands of other people were drunk. However, none of us kicked anyone's ass, except apparently this guy.

Didn't know that festival existed. I stand corrected! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm heading to the nearest Haunted Pumpkin Patch to get smashed and assault children...

I'd be the last to defend his actions, but gosh, who hasn't done something really stupid in their life and gotten lucky that it just didn't bite them. Hopefully he has a chain of command that explores below the surface and takes a serious look into what can be done to salvage someone who obviously has a lot to offer.

I've done some stupid stuff, but I have never assaulted 3 people, including a woman with a blunt object, in a theme park.

Ahhh I miss those! That was my squadron's main mission, VERTREP.

I think @H46Bubba was referring to SUPPOs and NASOs, not MMCOs. He was talking about washouts being shipped out to Supply Corps School, I think.

Yes, squadron MMCOs are usually LDOs.
Correct. In Helo community most of the MCO's are or were at that time NASOs. Most had been previously washed out of the flight training program before going to Supply School. MMCO's were always LDO/CWO.

Normally, I'd be "meh". I used to be fairly indifferent to Disney.

But the GF is a big fan, so I booked us a weekend at one of the resorts. It was, for the money, strongly above average.

However....the GF and I were on the Train riding around the park, and we cruised by the photo area, where the kids get to take their pictures taken, when a scene caught my eye:

Some parents had taken a little guy, probably no more than 4, to get his picture taken with Woody and Jessie. You could tell he's a little scared, but the folks in those costumes made him feel so welcomed , that he gets over his fear and runs up and hugs them, and they make him feel like he's the only kid in the world.

You need to be a VERY special person to do that job, and to make every kid that comes up feel like he or she is the most important kid in the world. You need an IMPRESSIVE management culture to make sure that happens each and every time, and that you hire the absolute best people for that job with absolute consistency.

So, how can you go nuts at Disney? I don't get it. They're completely harmless.

There, so Richman has a soft spot. Don't none of youse go tellin' no one.

If you want to eat, drink, and fight around the kids, go to Chuck E. Cheese.
