Sabreliner pilots? I just got one...sorta...

There are a number of Saberliners still flying. I see Saber 75s and 80s here and there.

Hello guys:

First off all let me introduce myself.

My name is Luis Edwins Martinez Ranciaffi, I'm a 23 years old, Sabreliner 65 First Officer. (Probably the youngest Sabreliner First Officer and/or Pilot left);)

I just got here by coincidence since I was investigating how many Sabreliners are still flying around, actually I have the luck to fly the last one remaining in Venezuela.

I want to help you with whatever you need altought I won't be able to provide pictures since we left the Sabre in Fort Lauderdale Executive for a 5 year inspection. We are going to pick it up in 3-4 weeks from now.:(

By the way, I have a lot of videos flying our Sabreliner in my Youtube Channel in case you need to see something special for the simulator project: http://www.youtube.com/user/LuisEdwins/videos

This is my first turbine airplane and I'm in love with it..!

Nice to meet you all..!:)

After watching the videos and checking out the pictures, it's OBVIOUS why these airplanes have been left to die...

The gear handle is on the Captain's side! :eek2: Should have never been built to begin with...

Just like the old Mitsubishi Diamond Jets.

Jankey Veeector! I used to work at FXE, both as a line guy at Banyan, and later flying an airplane based at Banyan.

Good videos.

I am confused... so the OP needs photos of a Saberliner flight deck to determine what panel is missing? Google Images???

I'm at AEG right now and a sabreliner is making his way to florida. so I guess people still do fly them!

Speak of the devil, I was thinking of this thread when I heard this guy get cleared to land while we were holding short at GGG.

I got the pleasure of flying the sim here in STL for my job interview with Trans State. Really enjoyed it!

We were supposed to go this year for our recurrent training but since we are about to sell the Sabre, it's no longer necessary.

I loved my Initial Traning at Flight Safety Int., Saint Louis. I went there with just 300 hours TT and the condition for letting me take the course was to take it as PIC for them to make sure I was well prepared at the end. Obviously once I got back to Venezuela I just took the SIC checkride.

That was a very complex course since I was the only student on Initial Traning but I handled it good. I had to study one month before going there.:eek2:

Jajaja

Hi Groundpunder:

Jajajajaja, yeah I don't know why all controllers have problems with pir Registration, the got confused and mix the numbers, like "YV451T, YV541T" jajajaja its so funny.

I love Banyan as FBO but we had a big problem with maintenance center with our Beechcraft King Air F90, we had a gear up landing days after a service there like 2 month ago..!

Once you fly in a Sabreliner you'll see there's nothing to envy to other airplanes like Learjet 60. It flies faster, farther, the cabin is more confortable, etc. Avionics its other thing..!:def:

Same on many Citations. I mean, why have the self-loading baggage in the right seat if you don't truly need it?

Stormchaser, thanks for posting! That is the best pic I have so far. I have spent the past few months scouring the net for info and pics of the 60, but there seem to be precious few pics of the side consoles. No problem on the sim time, but you may have to wait a year or two while I build a shop, mount the cockpit on a trailer, build the interfaces, re-wire, build the instructor station, and design/build the 20ft Mylar reflective screen for the projection system. :)

The pic leaves me a little confused, however....I have two big gauges on the right side that you do not have. One is related to cabin pressure, the other appears to be related to airspeed/temp relationship or something. I have oxygen regulator panels on both sides, the light dimmers (both sides), and the breaker panels. I also have a small panel with white buttons, on both sides...it appears to be related to audio comms, but it's much smaller than the one in your pic. My battery temp panel is on the LEFT side, however. The missing panel(s) are right under the co-pilot's arm, between the dimmers and the breaker panel. I am missing the flight director panel, and I only have one (small) oxygen panel. I also don't have that comm panel you show.

It also appears my right-side breaker panel is much smaller than the one in the pics you posted.

The plane did definitely have an APU, because the previous owner pulled it before the plane was scrapped. Seems like I read somewhere that the 60 was the first model with an APU?

So I guess I need the comm panel, whatever was in place of the battery panel, and maybe the second (larger) oxygen panel? Perhaps I am missing a second breaker panel as well. I'm not sure if this plane would have had that dedicated flight director panel, as there is not one on the pilot's side.

Here is a pic of my left console, showing the battery panel:

Also, here is a pic of the right console...it's not the best angle, but it shows more or less all the pieces I do have:

I have a tarp tied around the cockpit right now, I will try to get some better pics of the right console in a couple of days.

It's true that not so many Sabreliners are flying anymore. I am told, however, that the 65 model (and perhaps the other later models) are much more in use than the older models. I probably would not have been able to get this cockpit had it been a 65 or later.

Luis, thanks for the YouTube link. I think I have actually seen a couple of your Sabreliner videos while searching. :)

I actually have already built a small two-place flight sim out of wood and real aircraft parts (mostly from ebay). I have some Gables and Collins control heads, which I have interfaced to a computer. I also have a real Bendix radar that I rebuilt and wrote software for, so that it displays actual weather from X-Plane (my flight sim software of choice). It just so happens that it's the same model as the one in the Sabreliner, so I know for sure I will be able to give the Sabreliner a functional weather radar!

So I really need to find out about these "obsolete" sims you guys are talking about.....sounds like they might could use a new home and a retrofit with modern COTS components and newer sim software, hehehe.

According to the webiste, FSI has the only Sabreliner sims in the world

Not anymore. :)

Matt
