Sabreliner pilots? I just got one...sorta...

Here are some pictures of the project. I will be making this into a simulator. I hope to add motion as well.

Believe it or not, my brother-in-law broke the wings off with a hammer. The aluminum literally shattered with each blow.

Janesville! That one has been sitting there forever....

Sabreliners are getting harder to spot at airports just like Westwinds and Jetstars.............

I actually don't recall ever seeing a Sabreliner, except for maybe a T-39 at Pima, and I've been around planes and airports all my life. Of course, it's possible I saw one at some point and just didn't know what it was.

In case anyone was wondering, this project is still moving along nicely. The Sabreliner has moved into my garage (pending a workshop build this spring), and my wife and I have begun the restoration process. I updated my page a while back, but a lot has happened and I need to update it again....

I also have a YouTube channel for this project: https://www.youtube.com/user/sabrelinersim

It's a slow process, but I am enjoying every step....well, maybe not the stripping/sanding. :)

Hi all, thought I would bump this old thread with an update, for anyone who may be interested!

The cockpit is now complete except for the APU panel...still can't find the darned thing, but at least now I've amassed a lot more technical and training material. I have a drawing from the PTM of how it's supposed to look, so if all else fails, I could build a replica. This is literally the last piece I'm missing (unless you count the fact that one of my EGTs is not correct).

Anyways....took the Sabreliner to its first show last September, it was a hit!

Here's a little progress video showing some engine startup work (I've actually got a lot more done since this video was taken):

Thanks again to everyone who's provided information, materials, and input. I'm still learning this airplane, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. :)

Hi all,

As I do Sabreliner researcher, this old post keeps popping up in my search results. :) Thought I'd drop by and post a couple of pics for those interested. I've been focusing a lot more on real flying this year...finally got around to doing my tailwheel checkout, now working on my CFI, and been having a blast with a 85hp Champ. But I've also still been tinkering with the Sabreliner. I plugged in a joystick and started experimenting with projectors.....will be re-arranging the garage soon so I have room to set up the Sabreliner and a good visual system.

Where are you based? I'm under the impression a lot of 40s and 60s ended up in Mexico, where the airframe hours mysteriously start rolling backwards. ;)

There are a few 65s still around, but very few 40s or 60s. I know of no 40s still flying in the US, and only one 60: the Fry's Sabreliner, dressed up like a T-39, and now operated in the Exhibition category by an airshow team. I'm FB friends with a guy on that team who recently got checked out as SIC. This is also the Sabreliner they put Bob Hoover in not too long ago (I believe it was his last Sabreliner flight....they made a cool video with him in the right seat, rolling the airplane). I think there might be one other Sabreliner in similar configuration.
