To help me understand the context of this post are you talking about pilots in general or those specifically at your company? If it is directed towards those at your airline, is your post directed at Captains or First Officers?

In general, Mark.

You know, the old adage about not putting all your eggs in one basket?

What else may I explain to help you understand?

Would it help you if I clearly stated that I am a believer in pilots having a well rounded academic background and prior professional experience, including leadership experience, prior to being airline pilots?

Hopefully that clears up any confusion you may have.

I'm not sure that it's necessary to develop that sort of experience prior to becoming a pilot, but it certainly makes sense to do so at some point early in life. Seeing all of our pilots who would like to punch out, but just don't have the capability to do so, is pretty sad. Being trapped is no fun.

I guess my point is that it is VERY easy to say, "DO SOMETHING ELSE", but if you are 35 years old, have a wife, two kids, a dog, a house, etc and are making $80,000 with 15 days off at ASA/Skywest/Eagle, it is easier said than done.

If you are an FO and you vote for a contract that gives you a pay cut you are an idiot. There is no money to give period. Tell me one traveling job that requires you to be gone from home 4-5 months out of the year that pays less than $30k? There isn't any to my knowledge. Even if you are an FO that has never done anything other than fly airplanes around how hard is it really to replace the income? Go make sandwiches at Subway if you are really desperate because I guarantee you it's not as hard and you can probably make as much. And before we go into the few FOs that are making "decent" money lets not forget the time and sacrifice it took to get there. Our pay is pathetic period. I will promptly be voting no to a concessionary contract right after PSA most likely votes yes to theirs.

8/5 New Hire awards:

- 6 IAH
- 3 ORD
- 5 CLE

I'm from CMH and didn't even want CLE.
Hmmm. I bid for CLE and didn't get it. Hopefully the next bid will allow me to go there. Nothing like home basing if you can swing it.

Per our latest company blastmail:

For pilots, we continue to hire two classes a month on the ERJ side due to the extensions of the 145s and 135s that were slated to go away this fall. Hiring will continue through the end of the year at least and then we’ll be looking at next year as we get closer to the first quarter.
On the CRJ side, we have a class this month and plan to have a few more classes for the remainder of the year.

Have you email anyone in recruiting? I thought all you needed was 1500 hrs and a pulse...
I just got called with 1175tt... Don't qualify for the r-ATP either. Do you have any contacts that could pass your resume on to the recruiting department?

Are the E145 leases/contracts supposed to expiring soon? The 65/mo is purely for attrition right?
