ExpressJet Hiring

10 total. 5 ERJ - 5 CRJ. Yes, 15.22 for ERJ. 15.38 for CRJ. They posted the day after AA. So with AA hiring a class of 22, DL hiring I assume a class of about 10 and UA hiring a class of a similar size in the fall they can expect some attrition. At least they're on top of it for once. Good luck folks.

In my experience, most regionals will hire people fresh out of dispatch school. I know due to some carriers going Tango uniform, that the market has been kind of competitive, but with the hiring booms expected from the majors, I think there will be quite a few regional opportunities for dispatch "greenhorns"

Weird thing about their application, they require you to list even minor traffic violations like speeding tickets. Wtf. Why? To weed out less ambitious applicants? Haha.

ExpressJet does hire people without dispatch experience. The dispatchers that lack experience tend to go to the CRJ side whereas the more experienced dispatchers usually go to the ERJ side.

There is still a pretty big cultural difference between the two sides. The CRJ is a lot more structured manual and procedures wise than the ERJ side.

Yeah...that's a new one...care to explain?

What I meant was the ERJ side has a DOM that isnt quite as developed as the CRJ side. The DOM is pretty new on the ERJ side. The ERJ side still had a lot of tribal knowledge instead of going to a company manual to find the answer.

The CRJ side just seemed to be easier and more structured for brand new dispatchers. The ERJ side had a few days of training and then they sent you out to do 80 releases on AM shifts. The CRJ side had a bit more training and didnt have as many releases to do.

Flagship_dxer, whoa there...gonna stop you.

1) Our class, there was 1 who went to the CRJ side; next class: 2 went over; following class - out of 10, I think 2 stayed on ERJ, and 8 went over to the CRJ. They base you on operational needs. It's not based on who is smart and who is dumb. When the OCC Mgr said that he could have hired 20 DXers and only picked 8 EXPERIENCED DXers, he was full of sh*t. This was the same guy who said I was making a tragic mistake to leave XJT to become an SOC Duty Mgr....ummm, yeah right.

2) Why are the CRJ DXers happier? Oh wait, could it be because they get DL, UA & AA benefits. The ERJ get only UA benefits. One of the ERJ leads there mentioned, "You have UA benefits, what else do you need?" Jesus Christ, we're based in ATL, wouldn't it be nice to have flight benefits for the company who has the WORLD'S LARGEST AIRLINE HUB AT THE WORLD BUSIEST AIRPORT?????? Also, it doesn't help if you have union negotiations that are stalled, to the point that UA is threatening to withhold flying until it is solved.
3) Every airline has their own tribal knowledge. They all have a spelled out policy & procedures manual that approved by the FAA. That's what makes them unique. Guarantee you that UA, AA, DL, WN all have the "approved method" per the manual to do something, but DXers have come up with a "shortcut" to get the job done that meets every airline's three parameters: Is it safe?, Is it legal? and finally, Is it efficient? Think of those questions as a tripod. You knock one leg out, and the other two fall down.
4) 80 releases? Yes, when we were there the average morning desk did 80-85 releases, and JA'ing was the norm. But they have come up with a normal staffing model, and from my internal sources, I'm hearing that the average releases for a morning shift is between 55-65 releases. There is no more overtime (for the time being); no more JA'ing (so no more crying when people get JA'd).

OK guys, I applied online and got an email today asking if I'd be interested in interviewing. I can't believe I'm going to be going for my first DX interview. Honestly, it scares the crap out of me. We're talking about a total career change, way less pay than I make now and having to move. Yikes! I'm super excited though!

Anyway, I'm super excited. They said the interviews will take place in Houston. I have a couple of question. First, I'd really like to tour the OCC and see what it's like before accepting a job with them. Does anyone know if they set this up? Also, can anyone give me a rundown of what to expect at the interview? Thanks!

Typically they hold interviews in ATL, so kind of surprised to see that they will be interviewing in Houston. I hope they are hiring for the CRJ side as well as the ERJ side... the CRJ side comes with better flight benefits.

That changed with the last class. Apparently, DL caught wind that XJT was flying ERJ applicant dispatchers down to ATL on DL metal and they put a stop to it and made all applicants for the last class fly UA to IAH. Maybe it was that the last class was all ERJ so they couldn't tell DL "we have potential CRJ dispatcher in this class blah blah". It may switch back to ATL interviews again this coming class because of the CRJ/ERJ mix.
