118F - max RJ operating temerature

In Phoenix at present we're up in the high 110s - apparently the RJ has a max OAT Ops Temp of 118F.

What happens when we go to 119F - cancel the flight, find a place to land, wheel out the Brasillia?

Alex.

PS - The highest I've flown in was around 118F also, and the C-152 didn't like that.

That has happened before, at PHX. The temp exceeded operating temperatures and no planes left until the temp went back down to within the ac's operating limits.

Hmm, I wonder if it is a problem due to opspecs or something affecting all RJs - I wouldn't like to divert, the entire SW is ISA +35 right now.

It's not that 118 F is the max temp period, it's that ISA+35C is the max operating temperature (a limitation for the CRJ). Up in DEN, this means it's closer to 103F or so. Nothing to do with op specs, it's purely a Bombardier CRJ limitation.

It was 124 when I lived in Phoenix back in the early 90's. They shut down Sky Harbor for part of the day for all traffic.

At least it's a dry heat?

Actually, the humidity is over 10% and its nasty. Currently 104 as we speak. Our AC compressor went kaput yesterday so we had no AC lastnight. THAT SUCKED! Has a guy come to fix it this morning. I was actually happy to pay the $470 for the weekend service call.

128+ on the desert floor in some places of southwestern AZ while hiking out on the ground.

You have more fortitude than I do. I would have checked into a hotel faster than you could say heat stroke. :p

That was an immediate consideration and we were about to until my brother brought over a few oscillating fans. They helped a little. I actually soaked a small towel in cold water and used it as a blanket.

It was 115F yesterday. Worked outside a bit, it was actually fairly pleasant as long as you weren't in the sun.

But then, some of y'all think I'm a anti-Colonialist Kenyan Manchurian Candidate so I guess my heat tolerance wouldn't surprise some.

I've never come close to takeoff max temp but did hit ISA+30 max enroute temp and we weren't able to take off until ave route temps came down.

It was so funny the other day. It was about 90F and the density altitudes were getting above 2000ft :aghast:. Some of the old timers who've never left this state were talking to me about high DA's. I was just laughing so hard. Uh huh.. when it get's to 15k I'll start caring.

My airport was 10,000 the other afternoon. 2 ERJs and a 1900 had to wait it out in order to make the numbers work.
