I landed at Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta a few days ago to pick up a passenger in the Cirrus. If you can do it at KATL, I'm sure it can be done at Teterboro. The landing/ramp fees were $25.00, which isn't THAT bad.

Oh no doubt, for an actual paying customer job, if they want TEB, so be it. But for training/recreation, there is very few reasons to go to TEB.

I went recreationally into TEB. Same with IAD, BOS, and MIA

My boss would rather spend the extra dough to get to his meeting in Manhattan a little earlier, do his business, and get back home to either the office or his family.

The difference in price for him to go to TEB vs anywhere else is like you and me deciding to spend a little more on the fancy multigrain loaf than the plain white Wonder Bread.

Great let's run down them:

  • Teterboro: $7.29/gal
  • Caldwell: Dilapidated •hole 30+ mins in light traffic from NYC $6.98/gal Congrats you just saved $0.30/gal but the controllers WILL kill you, just a matter of time.
  • Morristown: Great airport. 45+ mins from Teterboro let alone NYC in good traffic. Used to live next to it. $6.72/gal. No rental cars, must take a taxi there goes $200.
  • Linden: As a business airport? Place is in an industrial zone you are lucky to not get shot walking out of the FBO. Also on the south side of the city, quite a hike, traffic can be BAD. $6.90/gal
  • Lincoln Park: Quaint little field. Used to eat Sunday breakfast there out of the back of my wagon, watching the deer roam across the field as C152's did pattern work. Quite a drive from NYC, no infrastructure last I was there like rental cars. Pay thru the nose for a taxi it's kinda in the sticks. $6.38/gal.
  • Long Island: Need I say more. Ever try to drive it? Can be quick (45 mins) or 5 hours. Depending on traffic. Not an option for those wanting to go downtown in a reasonable time frame.
  • White Plains: HAHHHAHAHAHA You want to go to NYC? Grab a helicopter. $6.98/gal
You don't go to Teterboro to top of the tanks, I don't think anyone would do that. The reason you go to Teterboro is to go to NYC, it's minutes away.

I'm saying for pleasure, I'm not going to TEB. If the boss man says land at TEB, it's his money. Good gosh, I didn't know so many people would get so butthurt about Teterhole.

If I were to go back to NYC even for pleasure I would have no issue paying another $0.30/gal and a small landing fee. Why? Under $3 (or was) and you are on a public bus to the heart of NYC in just a few minutes and the bus has their own travel lane (stop is walkable from SFS on east side of the airport). I once went into LI and missed the train, it was around $7 each way, next train was 45 mins way. Coming back we stood for almost 1 hour. Total travel time coming BACK was almost 3 hours. Such a waste.

Dude nobody is butt hurt. You threw out that people would be crazy to fly to an airport that you admittedly have only been to once. It's one of the bread and butter airports for lots of us and we're just passing along why it's not such a crazy idea to fly there vs. what's available.
 
I find it hysterical that you corporate folks love to rag on the airline guys about what we discuss, yet y'all go back and forth like schoolgirls who are mad as someone didn't invite someone else to a Justin Bieber concert.

TEB really isn't THAT bad. I'm not sure what it costs for pistons. I was there once in a Cherokee and Signature wanted $50, but that was my own fault for not doing any research at all.

If you decide to fly in during a morning or evening push, well than expect delays. Most days that I'm there we're always in and out with no problems, multiple times a day. If weather rolls in and SWAP gets thrown in, expect delays. It wouldn't be my first choice for a recreational flight, but it's really not as bad as some people think.

Why would I suggest not using TEB in this thread? Lets see, because it was a thread about a training 2 place Diamond, on which someone said shut down an airport. Exactly what we need to do in a congested area, shut down an airport. But hey, if you corporate guys want to clog up TEB even more with pattern work, have at it.

But whatever, I'm out of this holier-than-thou crap.
