Future of the MD-80

Might I suggest boat or house?

Well, actually a hotel room. I've been in this one. Buddy rented it for his wedding. It's frakkin amazing! You also need to check out the restaurant down the street. It is built around a C-123 that was used in the Iran-Contra dealings and abandoned at the San Jose airport after Hasenfus was shot down.. Has a Lear fuselage turned vertical and used as a dumb waiter from the kitchen to the tables.

Probably going to freight, just like a lot of other clapped out airliners.
The only freight airliners I ever see now are of the Boeing 74/75/76, airbus 300 series. I think Airborne proved moving freight in a -9 was a pretty bad idea.

A member here recently posted a pic of one that just arrived in Alaska, converted to freight.

You'll see some cargo Mad Dogs, but it will be a rare event. Small time operators in Africa will probably pick up a few, maybe even South America. Old 737s will be more sought after, though.

Plane has been grounded for YEARS. It's not currently airworthy, and from what I understand, they don't have the money to make it that way either.

Well shoot. It seemed like a poor business choice when I first heard about it, and now it goes to show that skydiving hippies ain't got no business sense.

After flying to Canada in the last few months I think Canada has more clapped out aircraft than Africa has.
.....

Where the hell did you fly?

WestJet has one of the most modern fleets on the planet, and Air Canada is not far behind.

Now if you flew up to the north, there's definately some old gear up there.

FIFY. Don't forget, the mad dog is just an overgrown DC-9, and in fact it's a DC-9 type rating.

Right, but we we're talking about the MD-80s here... DC-9s I think have been well established in their fading trend. MD-80s are still out there in large numbers. Especially when you compare DC-9's Passenger:Freight ratio and MD-80's Passenger:Frieght ratio. A lot more MD-80s are still passenger planes right now.

In the last few weeks we've been at Winnipeg, Edmonton, Kelowna and now I sit at Bob Quinn.

I've never seen so many Convairs, Metros and 727's!

Airplanes make ugly ass buildings. There is something really sad and degrading to see an airplane turned into something other than an airplane. It reminds me of a cat dressed up in goofy cat clothes.

Do you have professional credibility to back up your accusation? OBTW, you are INCORRECT. The reasons for Airborne's downfall are many, but the DC-9 was definitely NOT one of them. And before someone asks, I've BTDT.
