How is our livelihood being taken away? They fired the union president, they didn't disband the union. We just elect another president.
 
Just trimming the union fat. Or is it pork?


Edit: I misread, I see that he lost both his union position AND his job. The job portion isn't cool. I'd be perfectly content with getting a bad leader out of a union position, but a loss of job is always bad. IF there were failed checkrides (especially if not disclosed) then the company may have grounds for this. However, if not, and it's just some trumped up charges, then he should be able to get his job back. Usually, union guys watch the backs of their fellow union guys a lot more than the rest of the pilot group, so he should be back in no time if it was an unjust cause.

Maybe, maybe not. If the replacement is from an opposition wing of the pilot group, then things can get ugly. Pilots play dirty politics quite regularly.

We all know that was not what I was refering to when posting, no one should be fired for an unjust reason, including if he was in a position of influence.

I'm just saying that his position in the Union was a constant topic of doubt among some pilots.

After being with an ALPA airline and now Teamsters, I can tell you that there is a different level of bravada conveyed in ALPA that I haven't seen in Teamsters. Teamster is a pretty blue collar organization and I feel sometimes they see the Pilot groups as priveledged complainers. Just my observations.

Can't say that that really surprises me.
 
Do the bylaws require the president to be employed by RAH because I have seen no suggestion that he is not president anymore. Some people are doing an early touchdown celebration.

UNION FOR REPUBLIC AIRWAYS PILOTS PULLS PILOT VOLUNTEERS
FOR SAFETY, OTHER PROGRAMS
(Indianapolis, IN) -- The union representing pilots for three regional airlines owned by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings (NASDAQ:RJET) pulled volunteers for safety and other critical programs yesterday due to management misconduct.
Officials for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local No. 357 assert that Republic Airlines management recently violated training rules and the recommendations of its Federal Aviation Administration-approved check airmen by firing Local 357 President Craig Moffatt.
Pilots who volunteer with the union will no longer interact with the company in joint safety programs, crew scheduling, training and other functions.
"Our pilot volunteers have been critical to the smooth operations of three airlines," said Local 357 Vice President Gary Czachowski. "The company not only violated our training program, it abused the trust of our check airmen and other pilots."
Republic’s check airmen are pilots who fly regularly for Republic but have also been approved by the FAA to train other pilots. The check airmen review pilots’ progress in training during flight simulator sessions and actual flights designed to test a pilot’s proficiency in flying.
"The company’s action in manipulating the work of our check airmen raises serious questions about the integrity of the company," Czachowski said. "Our pilots cannot trust the company to comply with the contract and long-established rules governing the work of our volunteers."
This is the company’s second direct target of a Union volunteer. Last year, the company attempted to improperly discipline a pilot after he worked on a union-sponsored website which criticized the company.
"We look forward to resuming our pilot volunteer participation with the airlines," said Czachowski, "after the company can prove compliance with the purpose and spirit of joint programs with our Union."
Republic Airways Holdings does business as the following regional airlines:
Chautauqua Airlines – Flying for American, United, Delta and US Airways
Shuttle America – Flying for United and Delta
Republic Airlines – Flying for US Airways, Frontier and United

Passenger safety is not affected in any way. Pilots will continue to file safety reports with the FAA. Representatives from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local No. 357 notified the FAA yesterday that it was suspending participation in the FAA safety programs until concerns raised by the Company’s wrongful actions in its training program are resolved.
 
They are in a cool down period right? Could something like this result in the pilot group getting released for a strike?
