Republic

The seniority list update from Dec 1st shows more than 55 new hires in the first half of Nov. This is a hiring level that hasn't been seen for years. So, if you want to apply here, it's the time. As previous posters mentioned, expect CHQ and REP certs (mainly Qs on that side) .. We are losing airframes on the 190 flying and that will cause 170s on the Republic side backfilled.

They aren't trying to hide attrition from you. You become informed of hiring forecast on the macro level in the form of new flying (Q400, Ceazars, etc) and on the micro level with vacancies being posted. I don't see a need for the company to inform line pilots of new hire class dates and sizes but the information is not a secret and available if you request it from a recruiter.

You're right. There's no Cloak and Dagger game going on about attrition, but they are making absolutely no effort to keep the rank and file in the know. Everything comes out at the last moment it absolutely can. They don't need to violate any insider trading rules or gag orders to let us know what their plans are for hiring. The best angle I can get from this is that it's more or less the people who would be telling us are not getting timely information and I think it's because some things are happening last minute. But the company doesn't know how to update us in advance anyway, hence the cynicism you hear.

I wonder how it's possible to take home less than 1k a month? That would be bad if you really had to do that.

Luckily I have my military benefits and I'm single... the less than 1k/month is if you have health insurance for a family with kids... which is pretty much impossible to do as an FO here. If you include per diem (which technically isn't pay) and subtract union dues and uniform allowance 1st yr FO takes home about 1630 to 1730/month on min guarantee.

rahcontractnow.org is accurate when it comes to QOL, basing, scheduling etc

I'm fairly certain that is only one paycheck out of two in a month too.
You all are wrong. It can go below 1000.
Say you are a line holder and you lose a 4 day trip worth 24 hours.
Our min guarantee is 75 but the lines are built 82ish per pilot. When your 24 trip cancels you are down to 58 hrs.

At the first year pay with family insurance that brings the total to a pretty dismal pay..

How can you be down to 58 hours of pay if the min guarantee is 75? Your pay can't go below 75 even if all your trips cancel.

If you are not pay protected for your cnx trips, you get nothing when they cancel them. You only get paid for what you fly.

I'm reading the contract now, I won't quote it bc I'm not sure if the union allows but as long as you bid a full month (no unavailable days) you get 75 hrs. The 1,000 per month take home is due to the massive increase in healthcare costs for those that have it through the company.

The thing that hurts FOs (besides the obvious) is that you don't fly that much on reserve and the list is a big secret. A lot of guys come here thinking 'well first year pay is tough, so I'll fly 90 hrs/month.' Problem is the company doesn't have to go in reverse seniority to call reserves so they'll do whatever they can so you don't break the min. The cancellations hurts because naturally a lot of those guys pick up trips to make up for the low hourly... then wham a blizzard or a mx cancellation comes and you lose 8-15 hrs in a heartbeat.

1) Picking up OT on first year pay is a waste of time, factoring in after tax take home
2) If the union really cared about 1st year FO's they would have negotiated a much higher initial pay rate with a lower CA pay rate
2A) Why is it the companies fault for agreeing to such a large range in pay? The union wanted it that way, because most of them are more senior CA's.
3) Why someone would go some place that did not pay for cancels completely blows my mind, you already make very little why go someplace where it can be reduced even more?

This cry me a river crap gets old and embarrassing to the job. Personally I don't want the public to know I made $27,500 my first year at an airline.

True, thanks for looking that up. It's kinda odd these other people seem so confident in their wrong answers.

There's no way that's accurate

I'm so glad regardless of who I work for that I'm retired military, my insurance costs are about $450 a year.
