883TT CFI/CFII/MEI Looking for something

Well, since youre not worthy of being an airline pilot, go fly jumpers and have a blast. I found it to be a good change of pace after instructing

Is that really a good timebuilder though? I was under the impression the flights were crazy short. Anyway, before I do that, I feel like I need to get that last 40 XC to get to 500, or else I won't ever get it flying jumpers. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me as I am just a noob :)

I am doing the foreign pilot instructing thing too and am a couple hundred TT behind you but Ive been looking into doing skydiving on the side (weekends mostly) to help build hours and for a nice change of pace. Ive noticed that doing any other flying besides my usual flight/english instruction (like an aerial photoshoot i did the other day) is remarkably refreshing. So maybe a jumper dumper side job to keep things fresh while finishing up your 500 X/C and get up over 1200tt to move into a IFR-135 job.

I've been at it for a year, I've gotten 600 hours, if I have to instruct another year then so-be-it but I don't get the hostility towards trying to improve your life and position. Swisspilot, when I said relocate I was thinking US, although I'd be curious to hear the details...
Have you ever considered working in a different department at your flight school? I work at a similar type setup with mostly Chinese contract students (think central Florida) and I made the transition from line instructor to check pilot last year. It was a nice change of pace and I also work as a part time flight supervisor within the company just to change things up. Sometimes I even go into scheduling and request a spin flight or mx flight because I want to do something different.

I pick up mx flights when I can, if the opportunity presents itself to be a stage check pilot I will ;) I want to get that experience anyway, for the resume.

Suck it up, get your ATP mins, get your ATP, and go to the airlines. Stop being a whining pilot, like every other CFI. A lot have done it, you're no different (sorry to group you as everyone else, but truth hurts). I did what you're doing for just a tick under 1700hrs and was a check airman and had Assistant Chief Instructor duties. I know you can do it. I know it isn't fun, but you have to start somewhere. Do a lateral move (I know you said no, but I'm saying yes) to a different flight instructor job. Open your own flight school or something. Just get the time, and move on. You're 600hrs away from ATP TT mins, and 40hrs away from your ATP night mins...

I am right now, and that's the plan but friends encouraged me to look and it never hurts to look. Why all the negativity? That's like saying to a Eagle fo "oh don't apply to delta yet just suck it
up you'll upgrade soon and get 1000 tpic then you can get your legacy job". I would never give that advice, because it never hurts to start looking/trying early... Maybe somebody out here is looking for someone with my times for a nice lil gig. Maybe not and I continue instructing. Don't see the harm in trying?

Nice contribution dude... Some of you regional pilots have serious negative attitudes.. Really.. Lame...

I built more time flying jumpers than anything else. And im currently flying 100 hrs/ month now. Of course it depends on where you are but busy dropzones are very busy on the weekends. I often flew 20 loads in a day.

I instructed in the off season too. Maybe look at some part time work where you can fly jumpers on weekends and instruct other days. That would give you some variety and the time you need. Also, at bigger dropzones you can often move up to bigger equipment like caravans, otters, and king airs.

Again.. The RJ pilot stigma.. I had to be miserable so you should too.

Also, dont listen to the negativity here. Stay hungry and keep positive. If i listened to most ppl on this board i wouldnt be where i am today. And that would have been a huge mistake.

Absolutely. The negativity is not what this board is about. Our members have been very successful because of their out of the box thinking and positive attitudes. I would NOT be where I am today w/o this board because of the members who have helped me get to where I am. The negative crap is really annoying and does nothing to help anyone.

Negativity to you is reality to me.
To the guy flying jumpers : there isnt anything thst vakues your time to me if you are applying to the airlines. No xc time no night time. When you seat right seat to the nasty and real negative captains, the patience you showed next to a chinese ab initio guy that said yes to your questions is much more valuable compared to up and down jumps on the airport property..

Positivity is a great thing unles you hit the furlough/five year reserve/ displacement/ ten year upgrade or senior guys selling you out.

Life doesnt suck..but its full of realities.. ask to pilotsnthat lost their jobs due to shut down, merger, medical loss .etc.

Actually came for a job or job ideas. I welcome other advice but if it's "quit whining and suck it up" that's not really helpful. Obviously, if I can't find something, I will stay where I'm at. I just don't think it hurts to look.

We're all aware. Really. But a lot of us don't feel the need to piss on others' goals... A lot of us wouldn't be where we are if we carried an attitude like this. I've done CFI, 135 & 121.. I know what worked for me but something else might work for others...

In general, thats how everyone here is taking all of your posts in this thread. The op isnt "there" yet. He needs to get his atp mins/135 mins. And he needs a positive outlook to get there. I almost let my negativity take me out of the game when the great recession happened a month after i got my cfi. Some good friends kept me upbeat and helped me out when i needed it.

Let him be another grumpy regional pilot if/when that happens

I would take anything that SeattlePilot has to say with a grain of salt. He is the same guy that wanted to throw his fellow pilots under the bus for his gain. I think he acts like a tool online and I hear he acts the same in person. I will say it to your face just like I told your friend (Edit).

FYI: The OP is not a 883TT CFI.

Glad you have nothing to do with HR. Talking to the check airmen at my airline. They will take a jump pilot over a CFI everyday of the week.

I guess I must be sick because, after all that I am still a happy person and by the way I was never a CFI.
