Not a chance. They're going to announce a refit for the DC-9 panels next week, but they're still not going to install a proper autopilot in it. You're going to see guys doing RNP approaches with the turn knob.

Nah the MD-88 is a good jet for its purpose and the MD-90 is actually one of the most profitable jets "they" have.

Plus they're paid for. Getting them ready for NEXTGEN/CPDLC ip/downlink and ADS-C (??) is smart money.

I think it has been thought of before. There just isn't much strength in the wingtip though.

No idea. I was back on break looking at the wing flex on the 767 and it was almost scary looking!
