Super Bowl Departures

I was in NEW for the super bowl and was one of the first ones to be let out to their planes after the TFR lifted. Getting out of there was the worst expiriance I ever had. It was total chaos trying to pick up a clearance. Everyone was stepping all over each other. It was like playing clearance roulette. I finally got lucky and got my clarance after trying for 45 min. Ramp control was just as bad also. It took another 30min just to taxi out of the ramp so I could switch to ground. It was an absolute zoo and I really hope I never have to do that again!

Should have used Slidell. 25 miles away, there might have been 6 jets on the ramp.

I think they do. She'll give out a clearance, and then all of the sudden a different controller will clear a plane for takeoff.

If you're listening in on a live feed, more times than not they put multiple frequencies on the same internet feed, for example liveatc.com's feed of KNEW includes DEL/GND/TWR, so they weren't combined, the three frequencies were just all on the same feed:

You'd think they would have put in a note of 'Dont call us, we'll call you' in the ATIS. Surely they can see a list of departures before the aircraft calls with the tail #.
The problem is Tower doesn't know when the boss is on board and ready to go. This isn't the airlines. I've had pax show up and weren't ready to leave for another 2 hours, because they were doing business still and they had one person that wasn't going on the flight, but they wanted a secure place to finish whatever they were doing.

But then they don't get to be seen by everybody. Duh. When you have business jets, and everybody is going to a major event, people in those jets want to mingle with the other business people, and not travel 25 miles away from everybody.

Fair enough. Rich people don't get rich by being stupid. You would think that if they valued getting out early, they would have looked into alternatives.

True, my principle shows up late on a regular basis. But, that doesn't keep you from copying a clearance that's good from 2 hours thereafter.

Meanwhile, in the real world, "Your flow window is 20 to 22. Don't miss it. It'll be bad."

Try that anywhere but the US, and just like stated above, you will get a major delay. That puts you in the system, and you now have slots wherever you are going. You can't even get your clearance in Russia until pax are through with customs. The pax can be on board, and they will tell you they are still waiting for customs clearance.

If you're going to someplace crowded (or departing someplace crowded) you'll doubtless be told to hold for release, and expect nastiness.

I get a PDC or call for clearance hours in advance on a pretty routine basis, due to being on the big man's time and generally only guessing when he might show up. But, I guess I'm not usually departing places with insane inbound/outbound traffic.

International, definitely only call when you're ready to go.

Just saying, surely theres a better way than everybody calling and stepping on each other.
