Super Bowl Departures

Anyone listening to KNEW right now? Absolutely insane how many jets are trying to get out at the same time...

Yeah, it's pretty annoying that they combine the 3 frequencies..

It's not that they combined freqs. That's just how busy clearance is. She sounded incredibly insecure during the first 30 minutes or so of that session. Must be pretty new. Now, very calm and collected...

I think they do. She'll give out a clearance, and then all of the sudden a different controller will clear a plane for takeoff.

I know they brough in cpc's from other facilities to some of the new orleans facilities to run clearance and flight data for the SB

Still wasn't enough, apparently. The bigger issue was that whenever a clearance would finish everyone would step on each other requesting clearance. There wasn't just one request, it was just 10+ requests and then 1 clearance would be given out... they wouldn't let the frequency open up long enough for her to give the clearance.

The NetJets flight going to Thermal was driving me nuts. Seemed like every 5 seconds he was asking for clearance. I'm pretty sure they heard you the first 10392 times. It was fun to hear though. Someone tweeted a pic of the ramp at NEW it looked like a biz jet convention.

He had been calling for 45+ minutes when I turned it off... it was just that insane. Also, delivery wasn't going in order of who called first, etc. It seemed that the controller was going in order of who was the loudest/clearest/first full callsign they heard.

At a few large terminal areas...

"Upon receipt of your ATC clearance, read back only your transponder code and call sign unless you have a question. Gate hold program in effect. Contact ground control [or metering] prior to engine start for flow times. ..."

Sounds like an insane time.

You'd think they would have put in a note of 'Dont call us, we'll call you' in the ATIS. Surely they can see a list of departures before the aircraft calls with the tail #.

Speaking of airships, I saw the MetLife blimp over Palm Springs this afternoon - I suspect coming from the golf tounament in Phoenix. Seemed like they were getting rocked pretty good. +/- 10 degees of pitch change. Didn't look like fun.

Ah yes, heading into Banning Pass, my guess. The worst possible place to have to go.

I remember going into DAL a couple of years ago on the morning after the Super Bowl. You had to listen to the ATIS or you would be lost. None of the published frequencies were who they were supposed to be. Every frequency that DAL had published on the CCI/10-9/Airport Diagram were being used.

One time I was glad I was scheduled 121. Start up and push on time... then we sat for longer than it ended up taking us to fly back to MEM. Fun times.

We left KNEW about 10 am this morning, was about 18th in line when we got to taxiway Bravo. From there I think we waited in line for about 30 min before we got out of there.
