That's really slick. Does it start/stop/route by individual aircraft? Like, if they assign you a routing "Taxi via Charlie, Alpha 2, Kilo, November to the gate" will the lights basically herd you along, or is it more like traffic intersections (green go, red stop, but you're doing your own nav.)

Just curious. Never heard of this system before and think it's a great idea.

They tell you "taxi on the greens" and the green lights illuminate in front of you leading you there. If you are to give way at an intersecting taxiway the green lights down the centerine disappear and red stop bars illuminate left to right across your taxiway.

It's fantastic and incredibly simple to operate with. I imagine the computer magic running it is anything but simple.

Edit. Found this video-

Around 6:00 they are taxiing, around 9:00 you can see some of the red bars when they need to turn.

Ah, it feels good to burn LL again.

I'll never understand why people do what they do with wheel fairings. One on the nose, or two on the mains but not on the nose. They're pretty ugly and it's pretty well understood they don't add much to airspeed for the average trip in an airplane that size, so why do people put just one or two of them on? I think it's good to take them off in the winter and for a lot of grass airport ops because they clog up very easily, and I think on certain airplanes they look nice, but they are a bit odd.

It's individual airplanes. Maybe Mode-S dependent?

It's slickern' goose poop.

We remove the mains in the winter due to slush, and the front one remains on due to it being a bear to remove (incase you didn't realize, January is winter in MI). I personally like the look of the fairings and the 3-5 kt increase in IAS. Just because you think wheel pants are ugly, means I should remove them from my airplane? That's like me saying, I think your car's spoiler is ugly and does nothing for performance, please remove it.

Maybe back in the day they didn't add much speed, but I've seen pants that will add 5 knots or better to some airplanes. The RV guys are claiming (on the RV-10) up to 18 knots out of wheel pants and strut fairings.

That's actually really impressive! I think they look great on the RVs
