Didn't Delta say they wanted to cut down on the DCI carriers significantly?
Yep. With the new DL contract and delivery of the 717s, DCI will be shrinking from last years amount by around 200-250 airframes through 2015.
Mainline is increasing airframe count by ~75.
You gotta vote to be able to complain. If we don't have 100% participation, it's a shame.
Well, they've already said all balloting, etc has to be done by Jan 15th, so less than 30 days to read it and vote. My guess? If it's voted down, Delta starts a slow wind down of Pinnacle. If it's approved, it's a slow wind down of MOST of Pinnacle. For most guys there, there result is going to be exactly the same. For the super senior lifers, well, they get to swim as big fish in the small pond a little while longer.....just like Comair.
Yeah, I could see them dangling the other 30 -900s as a carrot. Honestly, I hope no one falls for it. If Pinnacle were getting them, they would have been released with the fleet plan. Delta already knows where they're going. Anyone that thinks Pinnacle might have a shot is suffering from battered wife syndrome at this point. They should leave and go to their mom's house, but really. Delta might change for real this time.
I'm just thankful that I can watch this horror from a distance. I feel for all my brothers and sisters still there.
I like the fact that mainline is increasing, however the jobs aren't increasing. Just the airframes. Even when DL starts hiring again, it won't be in the amounts it coulda/shoulda/woulda been.
Want to explain to me how adding 75 airplanes won't increase the amount of bodies? The workrules in the TA were staffing neutral to about 200 less pilot positions, depending on who you ask.
The problem is mainline staffing is higher per airframe but not high enough to counter the disparity in RJ jobs lost. 75 vs 200+ is a net loss of overall pilot jobs. Not knocking the messenger. Just pointing out the issue when getting down to the "numbers"
You are absolutely right that the overall amount of "pilot" jobs will be lower. Capacity is remaining basically neutral, but with larger airplanes. At least higher paying jobs will be coming back to the industry. When the TA was signed, it was obvious there was going to be carnage at the regionals. The fact is, the regionals were way way overgrown- particularly with how much they overbought the 50 seaters to screw the mainline pilots in the early 2000's.
The problem with bubbles is that they have to pop from time to time... we all knew this one was coming for some time.
Come on.
They're self-financing. They're saving our bacon!
10 points if you can name the rep that said that.
