Buffer zones for En Route hand offs

I uh. Hrm. Odd, I recently had an ERJ pilot tell me that exact thing prefaced with a "before we go, just so you know..." as I switched them to Center. Not the part about the personal preference, but the numbers. I had previously capped them to get the aircraft behind them on top.

Friend of yours perhaps?

:)
Perhaps. Was it "Acey" or "Eagle Flight?" :)

I no longer fly the Whistling Poop Can of Death (I now fly its older, shorter sister), so unless it was many months ago it probably was not me. The "Fuel Conservation Profile" we had at BrandX had us climb it even slower—.56 Mach. Which is below flaps up maneuvering speed when you get to 370. :(

Fast is good.

It was an EGF. My explanation involved blaming it on the tower instead of the "you're kidding, right?" that I had to bite back.

Poor Eagle. :(

Agreed. The slowest that I like to (enroute) climb that airplane is 240 knots down low. It flies fine at 200, but unless you're going to tell me to pour the coal on with your speed adjustment, just turn me off the airway please.

From time to time I miss the Eagle flying, but ironically, my new employers are taking much of what I used to do...full circle.

Perhaps you've seen...

Understood. I didn't squelch the speed, I capped the altitude. The geniuses in the tower think they are doing you a favor when they blast you off first, and put the heavy MD-11 right up your six - same departure route. But, they aren't. And in that case, 290 knots wasn't going to solve my little problem.

Glad you're liking the new gig :)

It's a safe bet that in a line of airplanes waiting for departure, the Embraer is slowest in just about all phases of flight. Plan accordingly.

I also prefer to take a lateral deviation instead of the step climbs.

Turn me out of the way and get me higher, where I don't burn umpteen gajillion pounds/hour. :)

Likely the tower is trying to get out of the 2 minute wake turbulence hold for the regional behind the heavy, without regard to en route spacing down the line.

Not likely, it is. Like I said, they aren't doing anyone (but themselves) a favor.

But, it is what it is...
