ALPA sent me an invoice

Love my useless in house union. You should try it sometime.

So let's see: College Student, 400 hours, a couple instructor certs, and single-engine piston experience. Yet, you have quite the opinion on what services ALPA provides or doesn't provide (according to your vast knowledge) and what those services are worth.

Yeah, ok.....thanks for your input. :sarcasm:

Anytime :)

I hope you never say anything about pay, workrules, foreign ownership, insurance, 401k, safety, legal, contract administration, or a whole host of other options ALPA provides its members. Then again there have been a lot of documented successes from one man armies. Please think before you speak so you do not come across as such an ignorant poster.

Well that backfired... I was just making a goof, sorry If I offended some folk.

Yeah...how's that national ALPA Education committee working out for us.

A couple visits to campuses a year, the other 364/5 days these guys are getting pumped full with Management slant all day everyday.

I have never personally flown anything bigger than a Twin Bonanza and I've never been an airline pilot or even have a commercial - but I still try to send ALPA something with every paycheck. You should man up and stop being so cheap.
I'm sorry. I will pay my soul to ALPA ;)

You know, I'm not sure how it's working out. As with most committees, they're probably underfunded and doing the best they can at the moment with the manpower/ resources available. That said, clearly education is very important to prevent ignorance and counter the management slant.
But since you asked, I'm assuming you've also volunteered to assist with that committee? I'm sure they could use the help. Right?!

Or maybe we should ask Mr. A-300F4-622R what sort of education campaign his "in house" has performed? What has he, or his union, done to improve our profession?

We are suing the FAA to have the cargo cutout to the new rest rules removed.

Our hourly rates on any equipment have exceeded ALPA rates for years.

I'm no fan of his awesomeness (he's probably Chris Ford), who appears to be a senior Bus F/O at brown. But I think our union pretty much kicks butt. If you look at the history of what we have done as an independent pilot group against the big brown gorilla, I think it's pretty impressive. I don't mean to knock ALPA, but it's not the end all be all. I can promise you that the great majority of our pilot group is happy to not be ALPA. I could make a post at our message board for a formal accounting, but it would be a waste of time.

All that said, ALPA has done more for the profession than anyone. The IPA hasn't been around that long and bootstrapped off the gains that ALPA made to the profession, no doubt. We all need to work together to improve our lot.

Fact: ALPA will hound you and "threaten" you with status changes if you owe them money.

Fact: When ALPA owes you money, they say your account is current. It takes further effort to get said refund. See: 2011 dues refund of 25¢.

What I don't really understand is why when the company or union screw something up in regards to union dues, I'm expected to make up that mistake with a personal check, rather than auto deductions as usual..

I believe that Jimmy Hoffa can be found in Rich Trumka's mustache.

I think they started the air stairs with the D50E model, if that makes any sense. At least that's the earliest airstair model I have flown. The C50 (what we have) is the best of the non air stair bunch, in my view. Still can run 80/88 if you can find it.

(For certain, the A-C models were over-wing doors.)

Still find it funny that the U.S. Army calls the Twin Bonanza a Seminole. :)

And the red stuff is 80/87, young Padawan....:D

We are actually looking to get a Seminole door for our TwinBo. The Seminole door is much more durable and reliable than what Beech fitted to the civilian airplanes.

Regarding 80/87--we can't find any out here anyway...

Don't worry cruise. You'll find my name listed as one of seven, at last count, legacy ASA guys.

However, my other union responsibilities tend to not allow me much freedom to help them as often. However, the problem I am expressing is not one of doing nothing - because we are, however - it won't nearly be enough at just the time when so many will be entering the profession. And, of note, likely into their first real jobs outside of their high school or college part-time, low to moderate responsibility jobs.

This generation is very different and very unaware of the overall benefits of the work done on their behalf. They are cynical, and do not value input from those who have came before them. Not that this behavior can not be changed, it certainly can, but my earlier post references the great challenge we as an Association, and ultimately a profession, have to manage smartly.
