Third Checkride In A Week, Three New CFI Ratings!

Took my third and final CFI ride today, adding on the single engine rating. The oral was about 30 minutes, consisting of Special Emphasis Areas, and Area of Operations 13. I picked five topics to discuss, and it was off to the plane. We departed LZU and headed for 19A. Along the way we did the maneuvers, slow flight, power on and power off stalls, accelerated stall, eights on pylons, chandelles, lazy eights, emergency descent to a landing, power off 180's, short-field landing/takeoff. The pylons are my weakpoint because I am so tall that seeing the left wingtip is impossible for me. The examiner recognized that and gave me a bit of leeway on that side. All in all it was a pretty easy day in some crappy weather. The flight was 1.2 and my landings were the best that I have done in my life. I am happy to be done with my training, and now it is time to head back to being a Loadmaster for a while before I take some time off to be a flight instructor.

Cool man! That's the way to do it. One right after the other. I did 3 rides in 9 days. Almosttttt as fast as you. :P

Nicely done, congrats. The odds are definitely against you with the CFI course but it sounds like you showed em who's boss.

Now time for some celebratory brews and big sigh of relief.

Took a couple weeks off, had a few beers, and now I have an interview at LZU later this week. Keeping my fingers crossed. They hired a guy from my class who I did most of my training with. He had two busts (I have 0) and 60 less hours in airplanes than I do. We have the exact same work history as well, so hopefully I will get in.

I'm guessing you went to ATP? What was your recent experience before starting the course? How many total days did it take you? Did you finish within the paid for hours? I want to do it but am worried about how much recent experience I have. Sorry about all the questions but thanks for any reply!

I did go to ATP and had flown 70 hours with the previous 6 months. The program is 21 days, but we had a big class so it took awhile to get us all through. I started on 6/25 and took my last checkride on 7/20. I did three CFI rides in 8 days, didn't go over on my hours and felt perfectly comfortable. Buy an extra hour if you need to. There were guys in my class on the 15 hour program who had never flown the Seminole and they passed on the first try. Good luck.

Well just about half of my total time is in a Seminole so thats one of the reasons the ATP program is intriguing to me. I got my Multi Comm over 2.5 years ago and am just doing my Single Comm add on now. It's the only reason I have any recent flight time. I feel I can pick anything up and do it well but was just trying to get an opinion of some people that had done it recently. I obviously have taken a little more time to do my add on just for the lack of recent experience but the benefit to that is I am really starting to feel up to speed including Instruments. Do you feel someone in this situation could suceed in the ATP program?
