Sounds a little "grim" for Comair

HoJets has been in JFK a lot of late. Combined with the memo that we are all too expensive in comparison I would say that's the answer of who is picking up the flying...

This is also what i'm hearing in the rumor mill.
Leftover 70/90's going to them.

Be a lot easier if people would stop going there. Guy in my crashpad is going there and told me "I won't care about my commute when I'm a captain in 3 months."

Compass guys in the pad say they cover a lot of gojet flying to prevent crew cancelations.

That is correct. Alot of their flying with LGA and DTW have been in our scheduled bid packets

Why not? Most of their Delta planes already end in CA as it is.....

Part of the problem is people that are going there, however a majority of the problem lies with airline management bidding unrealistic contracts. If we can't make money unless we under bid GoJet, either they have some seriously lower admin costs or their using TSA/Compass flying to subsidize their GoJet contracts in a money shell game. They're not THAT much more junior than 9E is at this point. We've got a lot of super senior guys and a lot of super junior guys at this point. The middle of the road is shrinking quickly since we're all bailing for better places. The super senior guys will ride the airline into the ground.....and likely complain the whole way down. The super junior guys are just kinda trapped for now.

Besides, I have yet to see one airline where the costs of labor made or broke them. They either sank or floated on management decisions. I think I see where we're headed, and despite what guys were saying pre-bankrupcty filing, nothing the pilots do will save us. Might as well keep what we've got until the last second.

Wish TSA/GoJet financials were available so we could see what their pilots actually cost as a percentage of revenue. I have a feeling they're pulling exactly what you speculate too. I hope a bunch of pilots don't suddenly find themselves at an unprofitable airline because of mismangement.

Will be interesting to see if there is a big ALPA push there if they really start growing as a DCI carrier and what that will do to everyone's attitude towards GoJet.

Even publicly owned companies can hide that stuff pretty well. I couldn't tell you what our labor costs are at Pinnacle, and everyone and their brother has access to our books right now. They used to move stuff around between 9E and 9L all the time. Hence the reason we just NOW found out the Q400 operation and the 16 CRJ-900s were money losers. As far as pilots finding themselves at an unprofitable airline due to mismanagement, that's EVERY Pinnacle/Mesaba/Colgan guy right now. We were told "We're good!" right up until, well, our old management pulled the rip cord.

All this thread does is reinforce my unpopular view (in some circles) that one must get that degree in order to move up the food chain and rise above this mess.

The idea of a long career at a regional is ridiculous and seeing Comair go from "industry darling" to "Westair? Who the hell is Westair?" with catlike quickness should give every professional pilot pause.

GoJet might as well be a scab airline, they were created to get around an ALPA contract. Besides, they voted in teamsters fairly quickly.

I've always wondered why the only people that bitch about pay and companies are FOs. A good many at my company try to "demean" Republic guys by emphasizing "we'll follow the RJ" when ATC is referring to the E170. They also bitch about how little they get paid. It's like $3/hr difference, so after taxes maybe $200/month at best. I mean really grow up.

I hope the floodgates at mainlines open up here quickly. I don't want to be in Comair's position in the future but know all 700 guys at my company will be in the next few years.

I feel like most guys I fly with have a degree. Wonder what the actual percentages are.

And you're absolutely correct kellwolf... when I took accounting and finance classes the instructors would actually teach us the tricks to 'legally' manipulating the numbers.

Expressed my appreciation for the legacy of Comair pilots and my disappointment already today, but I really hope all of the professionals there land on their feet.

Good luck folks.

While we try to improve on QOL/contracts/etc. Remember this boys and girls, you are just a number to management. Doesn't matter if you are at Podunk Air to the all mighty widget tail. Management is and will always be about the bottom dollar. If X(pilots) are costing us too much then subtract X to a number that saves $$$$.

Am I the only who sees that the demise of a regional not entirely bad?

Many of you moan whine and complain about scope. The press release mentions reduction of the DCI carriers and growth mailine.

Someone needs to fall on a sword...

The 170 IS an RJ. It's got the same number of seats as a -900. I don't consider it demeaning to tell the truth.....

I'd agree IF the flying wasn't just going to another regional that underbid them. When the flying goes back to mainline, then I'll applaud.

Yup! It is an RJ. Its more childish to think that because the engines are under the wings and it's comfortable that it isn't and RJ.
